Well...I scored a fantastic board last year and it seems to be hard to get...figured Sapele (Mahogany) It has amazing grain and just beautifu. I managed to get a body and two necks from it. The pictures sure don't show the grain because I didn't wet it.
After talking with some luthiers about doing a set neck without a tenon they agreed that it would be fine if I got the fit right...I did so, so far, so good. It'll have a Strat neck, P-90's and I'll probably
do the Strat reliefs.
There are reasons I didn't want to have a tenon. The main reason is I wanted to know about doing
it like this - which is a common way many acoustics are made- you know that's some serious tension.

Rosewood fretboard...but still considering other woods.
Not sure yet about the Maple top. May leave it natural.

Yeah it would have been easier to make it a bolt-on neck but I'm spoiled now having a nice
taper and higher reach.

Going with silver hardware.

I don't think I've promised any guitars to friends so this one is for me. It'll also tell me if I can
wind some more P-90s that perform as well as that first set lol.

Hope ya enjoy.

I'd like to place an order for a solid snare drum.
Basically a solid chunk of good hardwood bent into a drum shell.

This could open up a whole new hobby for you.

Check out some of this guys work. It's right up there with your work Mike

Cool

I love Mahogany and P90 pickups, to have that based on a Stat style is like music to my ears.

Also; my favorite color is, all black, translucent black to allow the wood grain to show through.

I appreciate you guys letting me know...I enjoy posting the projects
and hearing others thoughts about the particulars.

Mike I did think about drums and found a guy on-line that has videos (gorilla drums I think)
but I've only watched the intro and kinda lost intrest when he stated, "when you order
the shell"...I was hoping he made the shells.
I am just now getting into steaming wood for guitar head laminates.

Greg my last build had P-90s and it's been to long since I had played with them. Really
enjoyed the sound so looking forward to hearing this one.
I think translucent black is great. I've seen a translucent dark gray that I like too.
I'll have to do some trials.

What's next?  Cavities for the pups and cut the block head down to thickness ( 9/16) but
if I laminate the head that measurement will change.
I've haven't done it yet but I got a nice clear white Holly board and can laminate it just like
Gibson use to.
What do I have to do to do that? The board isn't wide enough so I have to re-saw it (split it) and join the halves ( like a bookmatched top). The I have to steam the piece for the top
of head - you know how a Strat head is curved- and then dye it. With Holly the joint will or should be very hard to notice if even possible to see.
Also excellent wood for inlay but I'm not ready to inlay yet.

Well I've always shared the bad things that happen....my wife says, "the other guy showed up"...and he showed up lol...
For some reason "he" thought that it was time to cut the neck shape before routering out
the truss-rod channel. It's much easier to cut that channel when the block has nice square
sides...rather than having the taper.
I've been told by many that one of the biggest things about building is working ones way
out of the screw-ups. So I spent hours recovering.

LOL Karyn...it looks like it took me 21 minutes to type ...I'm at work...
