After Born To Run was recorded and during the litigation with Mike Appel, the band was not making any money and Gary Tallant noted that when he went to see local bands playing Bruce covers, he found that those bass players were making more money playing his lines than he did for creating and recording those lines (and was then currently earning).

So, what you're saying is that the money is in covering someone elses work, ya?

The song Born To Run is not only a great tune with great lyrics but imho one of the best arranged songs in rockdom … I just love playing the song.  It was definitely recorded prior to audiosnap and without a click.  The beat transitions back and forth between a 2 and 4 rock beat and a tango-ish thing with the snare on the “and of 2”.  If you listen, you can hear Ernest “boom” Carter and the band really struggling to keep a consistent tempo when they transition between the beats early in the song.

Born To Run..... can you believe that the state of New Jersey was so proud of native son Bruce, that they considered making Born to Run the official state song......... until some one decided to read the lyrics...

"Baby this town rips the bones from your back, it's a death trap, a suicide rap, we gotta get out while we can....."   

and they figured the lyrics didn't project the kind of impression they were hoping to give......

I read a story about Steve Hackett--former guitar player of Genesis--had a similar experience.  I think he was in Montreal on a solo tour and didn't have a great turn-out.  After the show, they went to a club that was packed.  A Genesis tribute band was playing there.
