Hi - I am working up a recreated version of a Dixie Dregs song, called Night Meets Light, with real guitar and everything else midi.
In the early part of the song, there is some sort of a synth bass part that comes in a little after the 30-second mark, and then the tone changes as it is played over about the next 10 seconds, where there is distortion added to the sound.
I am trying to figure out how I can recreate that sound, using the soft-synths and effects that I have.
Here is a link to the song in YouTube, and the synth bass part starts coming in around between 30 seconds and about 40 seconds into the song. Over that 10-seconds the distortion gets cranked up on the sound, but it doesn't actually get much louder, just more distorted.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxkVD5Ol1wQ My soft synths include Native Instruments Komplete 8 Ultimate (Kontakt 5, Reaktor, Massive, FM8, Absynth), and I also have the Arturia V Collection (recreations of Minimoog, Modular Moog, Arp 2600, Juno 8, Prophet, CS80, Oberheim SEM), as well as what comes with Sonar X3 Producer.
I can't quite figure out what T Lavitz originally used for this - it seems like he used a Minimoog for a lot of things, but I cannot quite get the sound quite right.
Thank you SOOO much for any attempts at assisting me with this - it is a project from the heart I am doing for a guitar playing friend of mine (he is playing all of the Steve Morse guitar parts for our rendition of it), and I am adding drums, bass, violin, synth bass, and keyboard lead for the project.
It is a beautiful song, and I want to give it my best shot.
