It ruined it for me... all the other mixes seem to have the hi hat 1dB too quiet now.

I've said this before, but one of my favourite mixes has to be Marillion's Misplaced Childhood

Ooo...  That might be a nice one to listen to this afternoon (after I finish listening to Herd Of Instinct's Conjure, which I couldn't prevent myself from getting, and am on the fourth go through - man, this stuff is GREAT!!!).

not seeing many modern mixes here, why not?

there are some amazing modern mixes, it's as if a lot of folks never bought any music past about 1978.
LOL

i WAS listening to some old albums this weekend, and one stood out over all the rest:

Todd Rundgren, "Todd"

this has some amazing stuff.

I think I gave up listening to mixes right about 1978.

I've been listening to music ever since.

I stumbled on Tim Maia for the first time just last Saturday.

I still have lots of listening to do.

You might want to consider some of the alternatives; eat, sleep, movies, popcorn etc.

Agreed. Though I suspect that one of the things which makes it harder to appreciate some of those more recent mixes is the heavy-handed modern mastering. At least, that's part of the reason for me.

"Keep on tryin'" by Poco knocked me out when I heard it for the first time. The sound, the mix and the performance. It was so brilliant compared to what I had heard untill then.
