  • (SOLVED - Thanks Bitflipper!) What's your favorite phaser?

I thought the most unique-sounding part in the song was the guitar track processed w/ PSP's Lexicon 85.

That's until I started trying to replicate that slightly-overdriven overdub w/ a phaser on it. And then I remembered - that's my old favorite: Sonic Timeworks 88

Windows only - and long since discontinued. A shame, really. They had amazing plugs.

And I loved that particular one. In fact, I loved it so much that it's the only phaser I used on all the phased guitars on that song. And that's quite a few of them. :s

I have - Logic's own Phasers, Guitar Rig's, POD Farm's, Amplitube's, but none of them sounds as rich.

Any phaser addict in the room? What do you use and recommend?

Actually, I STILL have this one (and the fun inside my TC Electronics G-Force of course!):

You know Rain, I've never found a Phaser or Flanger that I liked in plugin format. To me, one of the coolest ones I've ever used comes from an old Alesis Quadraverb. I can nail Eddie Van Halen's flange and phase with that perfectly as well as my own cool uses. I can't seem to get that out of the new gear or plugs though. It's probably because of the same thing you mentioned....the older gear sort of had an analog type sound to it...slightly dirty yet dirty in a good way. The new stuff is so clean you'd need to put something on it to dirty it up....but even there, the wave forms that make up those sounds simply don't impress me as much.

This above ^ is a great choice! One of my faves there for sure followed by the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Flanger/Phaser which I still have to this day. Another total knock-out in the world of phase and flange.

Danny - Interesting option. I hadn't considered it - probably because I'm so used to working ITB. But scoring a used Quadraverb might be an interesting option.

I was pretty much expecting that someone would chime in and tell me that I just needed to learn how to use my plugs, but, I swear, that ST phaser was something else. Rich and creamy.

Glad someone else actually hears the difference. Man, I'm starting to think that investing on hardware may be the best option - and not just for phasers....

Craig - man, I was expecting that one,  as in: my day wouldn't have been complete w/o that, pal! :)

BTW, I'd love to grab one of those MXR's, though in this case, I'm thinking more console/send sort of thing. The phaser on my amp isn't that bad, but it's not what I'm after. More of an after the speaker effect.

I used to like this one;

Can you guess which decade it was produced?

I have a current BOSS phaser but don't really like it that much.

In my mind's ear, I STILL hear the gorgeous phase shifting produced by the MAESTRO Phase Shifter back in about 1972.  It was the very first one I think.  It had 3 huge switches on it... Slow, Medium, and Fast.  And it would ramp up or slow down speeds when you changed...like  Leslie speaker.

They actually had a little stand for it that screwed into the bottom of the unit that would get the thing about 3 feet off the ground.
