Anybody out there care to comment on their experience learning to live with hearing aids?  My wife is tired of me asking her to repeat herself, especially when there's a lot of ambient noise.  She thinks I'm ready to try hearing aids, but I'm wondering about what effect they will have on recording and listening to music.

I've got typical old guy high-frequency hearing loss.  According to my recent audiogram, my hearing is good up to about 1.5k Hz and then drops off pretty fast beyond that -- down to 60-65 dB.  I'm told I'm a good candidate for the so-called open fit type that sits behind the ear and routes a little tube into the ear canal, but I'd like to have more real-world information before I go back to talk to those people.  Your observations would be helpful.

Thanks, John

Last time I had mine checked it has a dip at the 3k range.... then picks up above that.... Looks like somebody EQd that band out.

No... I got nothing for you on advice.

I hear the same complaints.... but I think it's more that I'm focused somewhere else and not on the person speaking.... I've had that problem all the way up as a kid.... Momma used to always say... BOY.... are you listening to me?

That's me. I have that behind the ear wire to the ear canal type. I only really use them for movies, sometimes TV (depending on the source materal) and final "critical" mix listening (when I remember to). They bring back about 60% of hi freq loss.

My Andy has them, they're digital and programmed to boost only the fequencies that you're short of.

Thanks for the replies.  I was concerned that hearing aids would make music sound worse because they're optimized for voice clarity.
