Can anyone give me any insight into possible ways to recreate the sound of the synth in the chorus of this:

Did you have to make me watch that?

Sounds like a typical '80's brass patch really.

I know it's a typical 80's brass patch...it's just I can't seem to find one that sounds like it. I'm thinking the chords are probably beefed up with guitar in the chorus as well.

Have you got Dyad? The 'padmoogybrass' is close. Yes, the guitar doubles up with the stabbed keys,  sounds like it's got a slap-back delay on it.

Z3ta probably has something similar

It's funny how, when I was a teenager, we looked down on synth music as totally, uh... how can I put it w/o offending anyone or breaking the TOS? You know, the opposite of virile... A bunch of effeminate wussies.

Watching that clip, I'm thinking there was a reason.

Because of music like this, bands like Def Leppard were considered heavy metal back then...

But then, it's even funnier to think that as I grew just a little bit older, I became a huge fan of The Cure and bands like Depeche Mode. Go figure.

Maybe because Def Leppard was rightfully regarded as a pop band by then. :P

There was some really good synth stuff around in the early eighties in the UK - Yazoo, The Human League, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Tubeway Army, OMD, Blancmange, Japan, Thomas Dolby (genius), Tears for fears
We didn't really get all the hair band stuff on BBC Radio 1 (thank god)

I'm more likely to appreciate that stuff. In fact, it wasn't until I met my wife that I really got back into heavy guitar-oriented music.

90% of my playlist in my 30s consisted of new wave/dark electro/synth-centric music. Of course, bands like Nine Inch Nails helped close the gap and opened my eyes as to how cool and totally badass synths could be.
