I hear you... I was excited, migrating from my Roland drum sounds to my 1st drum VSTi.  I was acting like a millenium child.

Bapu.... Superior allows you to point to the samples, but EZD does not.  Mod will be the expert on this, but I think Toontrack even told me this way back, on their own forums.
That said, I only use EZD for the crazy sets now or if I want something REALLY fast...like under a nano sec...

Yeah and part of my set up issues is that I have to be careful what kind of hacks I do in my installations so that I keep my Toontrack setups in line with what a normal user would have on their machine.  Superior is different in that you can put things where you want it.  EZdrummer is by design, set up for people who are more into getting their song done than spending time tweaking computer set ups.

Agreed on EZD, but when I rebuilt my DAW I was careful to install EZDrummer (basic) with the samples on my E: drive and then every pack after that "knows" to install inside the EZD samples location (even updates). It all comes down to initially installing EZD carefully (read: Advanced mode) and not zip through the NEXT buttons.

Last year I hosed up my Windows 7 installation and had to do another installation.  The repair failed.  I had to install all of the EZXs.  I can't remember how I had to do it but I had to go through each library and do the updates.  It took quite a bit of time.  Since I'm a betatester, I have most of the libraries on my hard drives and not on DVD so I've got to make sure I know where they are.

I'm recalling my current set up and laughing at myself because I wouldn't allow a folder on my computer named Steinberg at one time.   Maybe I should just call it VSTplugins and put it in the root folder?

That's sorta the way I've been doing it - I have two folders on the C drive - c:\VST32 and c:\VST64. When I install a VST that has a Windows installer I change the path to one of these folders - also for Sonar's VST instruments. Makes it easy to back up everything. I put large sample libraries of VSTi instruments on a separate K drive.

When I built my latest PC I was still using Windows XP, but in anticipation of later migration to W7 (and possible additional uses for the PC), I partitioned the main drive for dual or triple-boot.

are you getting Win7 with this new computer?  and if so, why not 8?

Basically, safety in numbers is the reason I'm staying with Win 7 x64.  With the exception of SONAR, I'm not sure how many of my software products have a robust testing faze in Win 8 and I'm certain that some of my software and hardware does not support Win 8.  They might very well work but I don't want the hassles nor am I the pioneer type.

My previous computer builds have always lagged several years behind the cutting edge.

Hi Dave,

Machine is en-route (just in case the Email isn't getting thru)
You should have gotten an Email yesterday (directly from FedEx).
I just forwarded the information to your Gator-tracks address.

Thanks, Jim.

Now I'm faced with the task of installing all this software.  It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

stock "pro studio" from Jim?  I've got my $$ set aside...need to get a couple more pennies for a new interface...then the trigger is pulled.

I'd take a KILLER 4/4 card...NO pres... and for now, I think it's going to be the low cost Steinberg.  Cause I can always upgrade and don't have $1500 sunk into an interface.  I can move a mic easier too, if that makes sense.

But....I could sell some guitars...which I don't want to do.   OT at work is picking up, so cash is coming in.
