Congratulations to the host's; may the force be with you

{ahem} Now that I have dispensed with the pleasantries; could one of you (host's) be so kind and thoughtful by serving us a stack of becan.... oh and I'll have a cup of Bapu's coffee {uh-oh} skip that... I'll have instead; pure mango juice. Thanks!

BTW: {burp!}

BTW I will probably be the first to screw up at this. I'm very good at swearing (I will try and be on best behaviour now), I do lots of one or two word replies, and I know I get on some peoples nerves, so apologies in advance.

.... "none of them start meaningless and pointless threads"...

You mean like this one, Opps.... :).

Anyway in my view one of the best example of being a host is Craig, so I will try and be like him. From what I understand there may be some moving of forums posts so they are in the correct forum for the job, that may rattle a few chains (if so, so be it.. it will get other forums moving again), but that will be it. Business as usual (with human indexers).

Cheers...

p.s. Just so it is clear Cakewalk wrote this in their first PM:

1] This is not a commitment on your part to be a forum host
2] This is not a commitment on our part to make you a forum host

So still nothing is set in stone yet.

As of today "Forum Host" is purely a random title the group members have. We have no super powers in the regular forum.

We have access to a private area where we can play with the new toys and discuss exactly how the forum is going to go forward. We can make suggestions and offer opinions but the final say is, as always, with the bakers.

As Alex said, none of us are guaranteed to become actual Forum Hosts when the new system goes live. We're beta testers, nothing more.

And this is the reason I'd have preferred that this step at least would have been anonymous. But hay ho.

Here's a good rule of thumb. If you think what you're going to say to *any* user on this forum, either publicly or privately is objectionable or may constitute moderation intervention, you shouldn't voice it on the Cakewalk Forums. Period.

In that case, I'd like to say hear and now that *I* find the terms Cakewalk, Sonar and X3 offensive, so what ya gonna do now ? Tell everyone they can't use those words ?

There are always people that will decide they are offended by something. It's like they want to be most of the time and to be honest how people can be offended by anonymous words on a computer screen is totally beyond me. Can we not just have some kind of autoreply feature built in that tells people who claim to be offended to just grow up ! ? ;)

Have to say that I totally agree with most everything Steve says. The very notion of putting people "in charge" of deciding whether a post/thread is playing by the rules or not when some of those same people are among the most flagrant flaunters of said rules has to be questionable at best, however loveable they might be. Regardless of that and even if the selected few are whiter than white, it still feels like a backward step and another nail in the coffin of this place I once loved.

I'm sure that nobody wants to see a return to the pages and pages of spam that were a daily occurence at one point, but that problem seems (fingers crossed) to have been solved by existing methods, so it's hard to see why there is any need to further fix something that isn't broken.

Obviously, it goes without saying that it's your forum and you can do whatever you like and if people don't like it they can always go elsewhere, but frankly this place is dying on it's arse as it is and needs all the posters it can get.

Yeah, the intention was for it to be anonymous for now until it was rolled out. Sorry about that. A weird quirk of the forum software. All "Forum Host" is, is the name of private user group. People are jumping to conclusions unfortunately based on how graphics & titles were set in the software which labeled things as "Moderator".

So, your saying that Bacon Managers is still up for consideration then?

I must be missing the part about where "Forum Host" was defined to mean "TOS Nazi".

That seems to be the only part that has been kept a secret so far...

Uh... somehow I don't see Beagle and Karen all of a sudden going on a demented power trip. Mayhaps we should wait to see how things are going to work out before cracking each others skulls open and feasting on the goo inside.

Or not. Whatevs.
