Back in the day if someone offended the fairer members of your party you could take the offender aside and horse whip him and then have a little conversation that assured everyone that that would the very last thing said about that.

You're right...here ya go.  Still looks like a fair quote to me.  Or would that be "fairer quote"???

It's not the word "sex" that some women find offensive, it's the word "fairer." For whatever reason, they find it patronizing. Although ours isn't to question, right? It's to simply not use the word without any consideration of whether or not it's reasonable to be offended by it. Which is apparently the lesson I'm being schooled on here. 

Oh and I think most people are going to read "fairer members" as a reference to women. 

Well I did agree with the sentiment posited by sharke and said so. 

But I also know my intention when I made my initial statement and choose my word carefully.

ergo the fairer "members" of society do actually exist... and not to surprise you or anything... but some of the fairer "members" are also... gasp; guys.
