I like the part about using the Y-Splitter to get the guitar to react with the amp while providing an good input into an interface.

No! But I use that trick a lot. It does tend to cut the individual signals slightly but nothin' to worry about.
I use it to route thru 2 different effect chains which go to their own stereo channels on the mixer. There I can mix or isolate the signals how I want without having to fiddle with the effects very much.
