The UK exports horse meat to France. Even though I'm a horse owner I don't have any qualms about eating the meat if I know that's what it is, and that it's been bred for human consumption.

The questionable thing is how the horse meat came into the chain. Horses used for work or sport will have been administered all kind of drugs during their lifetime, bute being just one example.

I'm with Jonbouy in as much as I'm far more concerned about the other ingredients in those kind of budget products 'rusk' for example, and 'filler'..

Hi,

The worse part of all this "meat", with all that beef in it, and lacking bapu badly, os that it has over 100 different antibiotics and many other chemecals, the majority of which, no one knows what they can do to you in the long run! But I guess we will find out when you die of cancer at 105! And your fingers already fell off and you can only dream about a gueetar!

In times past down south it wasn't uncommon for people to eat possum. This was before my time. I guess if I were raised in Paris horse would be no different than chicken or any other common meat.

I heard that wendys burgers have ground up earthworms in them. I still like one every now and then. Sometimes I end up with a Mcdonalds or BK burger. I don't eat enough of it though to really be a danger.  I have taken a real liking to pink salmon.

The only time I really go big on the beef is when we go out to eat for a special occasion to Texas Roadhouse. I might order the big T-bone then and I don't tend to feel very guilty afterwards. Theres nothing like being filled up with a nice baked potato/sour cream and a 20 oz. T-bone smothered in onions and mushrooms.Tastes good going down too. I think as long as you keep it occasional there is no harm done.

As I see it there is no getting around horomones and genetic manipulation unless you can eat from a fresh garden all year long. It is usually in the chain somewhere.

Europe has a massive history of folks eating a lot more than horse meat ... and there are enough movies about WW2 and its aftermath, not to mention DURING it, when there was no meat or food for anyone anywhere.

So, in that sense, us freaking over "horse" ... is weird ... because our history is full of it already, and I don't mean horse$hit.

But, sometimes one wonders, when the greed, overturns the need and the no option left concern ... so seeing hamburgers stuffed with that, and no notes or the list of ingredients not listed properly as it should ... is scary ... but, honestly, do you think that some people in Africa, Latin America, and the Far East, are eating anything else that is any better? ... let's talk spiders, snails, frogs, dogs, cats ... and other "delicacies"!

Am I the only one who thought of Yosemite Sam attempting to cook Bugs Bunny in a (vain) attempt to prepare Hassenpfeffer for the king?  I know hassenpfeffer has rabbit in it, but it sounded like "Hoss-in-feffer" to me.

On another note, am I the only one who thought of Bonanza and wondered how many steaks we could get out Hoss?

I'm hungry.
