Holland/The Netherlands is a nice country.
The amount of bicycles is directly comparable to the low number of obece people, isn't it? You simply don't see lard balls rolling along the streets, but it's normal to see couples in their 80's having an evening bike tour.
The bicycling is easy in a country where there are no hills. It's the same in Denmark. My friends in northern Greece laughed aloud when we talked about biking. With a quarter mile altitude difference every mile, even more, up and down, sure makes biking impossible.

That is only because I decided not to ride a bicycle while I was here.

On the other hand, people smoke like fiends or at least it seems that way.

Wow Dave, that sound like a nice trip.

I assume you have your drums with you. Don't want to waste a NagBap doya?

Hi Ed ... no strictly recreational while in Amsterdam.  I did bring my Zoom H1 with me and may try to catch some of the sounds of Africa.  Hopefully I will have internet access again in a day or two but signing off for now.  Dave

Have a great trip Dave! Don't wander down any dark side streets...

I lived in Holland for a while back in the '80's, part of that time I was living just 20 Km from Amsterdam. The Zeedijke area was really scary then. Last time I went back it had been cleaned up and and was really nice with good resturants and bars. The Red Light District has been scaled back too.

@Dave - hope you had a good Indonesian meal while you were there.

I think I heard that "foreigners" are no longer allowed in those coffee shops as of the first of the year...  Not sure what all the politics behind it are.

Nah, that's not happening now.

They realised just how much the City of Amsterdam relied on the tourism sector to boost the local economy, and that making the coffee shops off-limits to foreigners would not only make a dent in their finances, but could also be construed as illegal, under EU law.

Phew! Thank dolphins for that!

Could explain why he walks through some areas of town faster than others though...
