  • "The Iron Lady" - what a truly appalling movie :-( (p.3)

As, I'd venture, is a lot of the sordid history of our 'beloved' royal family Bub.

And that's just the last 40 years.......

Aw Steve - didn't you enjoy the Jubilee or the parachute jump last year?  Over the years I've lurched between the monarchist and republican position and for now am ok in the former camp.  Seems to me a lot of value in a nominal Head of State who doesn't have to make any decisions based on the voting feelings of a majority who align their thinking based on the whims of reality tv shows.  I get far more irritated by the nonsense and guff coming out of all sides of the Commons.

Steve knows that although we agree on most things (I'm still watching Hitch btw mate) we part company on this issue  I'd prefer the monarchy over President Dave Chinless any day.

It's funny but after over 10 years of living outside the UK certain things about it seem bizarre to me now....like the Royal family and the TV license. The Royals just seem like an archaic, quaint soap opera that refuses to quit. And as for having to buy a "license" to watch TV.....hooooo boy! That's just the biggest bowl of wrong....

The license is a bizarre concept I guess..on the other hand we do have a dozen TV channels and the same if not more radio stations broadcasting free from ads, sponsors, politicians and shareholders...on the face of it.

And long may it continue thus.

Unless you have no desire to consume their content, in which case you should not have to pay for it.

Fair point that.

The wife and I attempted to watch the movie last night. She is a fan of Streep, so we took a look. After a looooong 25 minutes into the move, we looked at each other and turned it off. Sheeesh, what tedious piece of crap. The subject matter deserved a much better script.

Would anyone else enjoy seeing a newly crowned king of England dismiss the PM and Parliment and  arrest dissenters, assuming the complete control of a King of England. It might be a bad thing but it really would  be interesting... especially if he was a great and good king of the people.

Why have a king if he isn't really a king? If I were king....
