Yesterday morning I made a $49 purchase on the EW web store for Solo Violin

Yesterday afternoon I noticed two charges , one for $1 to Google (the "test purchase form the hacker)

and one for $106 to a Hauge Auto repair in San. Diego

I tried Googling the car repair place and came up empty handed.

Called my bank immediately , and closed that card, proble is the charges ar epending and wont drop off till monday,

so I may be charged and have to file a fraud report to get my money back.

I ran all the usual A/V stuff and no trojans or keyloggers show up, my PC is clean.

The EW store is supposed to be the California one, so Im wondering since the charge was in Ca too if theres a connection.

Now I wait till Monday with an knotted stomach, NO debit card for a weeek or so, and a burning desire to shoot all hackers..

I loathe and despise card hackers, sorry to hear about that. Your bank should have spotted that $1 transaction, it's the classic hacker 'test' purchase. I had that a year or so ago, and the fraud dept from my bank were on the phone to me within hours.

Man atleast you have it locked down.

Id get with the police and store ASAP and see if they cant get the person with the vehicle repair

It would be nice to see the police take over as the repair shop and once the repair and transaction is complete, slam 'em and cuff 'em

Stuff like this makes me realize I don't check my account nearly as often as I should.

The $1 test might not work with my checking balance...

Another reason I NEVER use my debit card for net purchases...not that it can't happen in a brick and mortar too.

Ya, I always use Bapu's.  Heck, he'd never notice a couple transactions buried among the 100's of others, roight?

It 'might' have been a person at EW and I suppose that explains the fake details; Hauge Auto because those details can be easily entered by staff and as you said; it came from the same location; CA.

Agree with Yorolpal; these problems can also occur at brick and mortar sites.

I've had unauthorized transactions occur in the past; immediately closed that account. I guess the police will eventually catch up with the thief.  What my wife and i do now for any 'online' transaction is; plan to shop for and cover the cost for just prior (same day, within 2 hour window) and after purchase the debit card balance remains at just $1.

Did I forget to mention I still prefer to use good old cash!

My debit card was hacked after a web purchase a year ago.  Friday night on payday my account was fat.  Next morning I logged on to the bank website to pay some bills online.  Huh?? $34 balance???  WESTERN UNION CASH TRANSFERS??!!!  Picked up in person in ECUADOR???!!!  The bank made good but I NEVER used my debit card online again.

I had started using a prepaid CC for transactions like this, and would load up the required amount before the tranaction, but I stopped using it because I had to go to mt credit union to refill it and sometimes there was a time frame, .

I usually try to call the merchant and place the order over the phone, but EW had no option for that ..

I think I am going to start using it again...
