I'm so with you there brother. I've had more things stolen from me in my life than I care to think about. I definitely think we need to get tougher on any theif that has blatant evidence against him. I too wouldn't mind the cruel and unusual punishment...however, unless there is blatant proof, I'd hate to see someone innocent go through that when they didn't deserve it.

But anyone that has cold, hard proof against them....eye for an eye. Instead they get a slap on the wrist and get a chance to go back out and do something far worse...and after that, the worst case scenario, another slap on the wrist or 3 meals a day with a place to sleep. Might be bad living conditions in jail, but some of them have better lives than homeless people. :(

Hi,

Both FIA and Bank of America, are notorious for this.

But there are not "external" hackers, as you never see/get anyone busted up for it.

It's an internal scoop! Check this out!

I got the card with a really LOW rate. Within a year, the account was hacked 3 times, and the Interest Rate went up. They returned the moneys, etc, etc, etc, but the interest rate went UP ... why? ... your account is now one with a "higher risk", and therefore, your interest goes up! A month later, someone calls asking if I want to get the insurance for the account which costs 9.95 per month ... but the interest rate is still NOT returned to the low interest!

So, I did not renew and asked the FIA account to close ... and these accounts were "transferred" to Bank of America, and they issued a new card on an "inactive" account ... AND THE MF'RS PROCEEDED TO "AUTHORIZE" THE CARD ILLEGALLY, AND ALLOW A PROCEDURE TO GO THROUGH! On an inactive card, they changed the expiration date on their own, and allowed an old card  -- that had the previous expiration -- to be accepted by that bank ... without my permission.

The hard part? You can't file complaints about this, and both Congress and House are not interested, and these financial institutions are running a muck ... besides not telling anyone what their computer code is doing underneath all of us ... that we will never know or understand!

Where is the problem? ... the bank ... if someone can hack it that easy, it is obviousl that someone else can as well ... but these internal hacks are much more important and dangerous than any other hack out there.

That said, there are "pros" out there ... but I would easily state that a good 75% of these are internal and can not be prosecuted, because the banks do not report them, and the police and FBI are not interested in banks except when they get robbed! Just like the movies!

I don't know what sort of punishment is dished out against thieves of this sort but I guess anything exceeding more than $500 is a felony, whoever is involved in this sort of thief probably has far exceeded that amount because once they start it's becomes like an obsession, and so greed kicks in, selfishness, no ethics, all these traits already long established.

I've always felt that money is the seed of all the types of crimes that occur and transaction technology doesn't go near enough to protect us. Do away with money but thieves will target property thief; hey nice jacket, love the boots, dig the car, oh what a lovely boat,; mind if I help myself to your home whilst your out

So what can you do?, eye for an eye?, (death penalty) use violence to resolve violence?

Problems is; there isn't really a straight up solution that 'everybody' will agree with in regards to dealing with convicted criminals. So far nothing has prevented further crimes,... kill one (death penalty) then later 'someone else' comes along to commit a more serious crime and so on and so forth. Unfortunately this is indeed the trend and it makes you think... hey these criminals must be sick minded to do such a crime no matter the consequences (death penalty).

The way technology is heading; there are options to use location tracking. If criminals remove the tracking then in the slammer you go. But does this go far enough?

Somehow; criminals need to 'give back' to society, to actually contribute in ways that improves the lives of decent folks....

It takes a screwed up mind to commit the crime so how about radical alterations of convicted criminal brains by using locked-on (screwed on) head-bands that turns criminals into smiley happy obeying citizens who give back to society rather than take....

Include cameras and GPS tracking system so these criminals can't go wondering beyond a set perimeter. For example; the worse criminals can assist; be put to shoveling sewer and garbage waste that is then converted into gas; to be use from heating to powering cars. Other waste can be used for creating building materials for constructing buildings that can withstand a tornado. I say; all this is giving back to society and providing a better quality of life for decent citizens.

Further research in this area of brain control devices may also help people who are unable to walk or who suffer from mental disorders. It could also lead to thought-controlled interfaces.... for SONAR and with that sort of interface it could control all the lights, the kitchen gadgets and entertainment systems in the home.

Oh yeah..the guy was filmed on CCTV using my wife's card at the ATM...police never even followed it up.

You know, that is just not acceptable. What the heck are the police good for if not trying to apprehend a criminal. That irritates me just to hear about it.

Back at least 15 years ago (when I still HAD money), I had my wallet pickpocketed in a Macy's mall store.  It was done by a Pro (the wallet was in my front pocket even!).  Within a couple of minutes of the theft, ONLY my American Express platinum card was used to buy $9,800 worth of stuff at a jewerly store not far away.  They knew exactly which card to use and what limit AmEx requires verification for with that card.  It was right before Christmas and really hampered by gift buying...  After that I used to keep an unused credit card in a safe just to have something to use if my wallet was ever stolen again.

Of course, now, I've discovered a new method.  Be broke most of the time - lol!

I was watching something on TV a few weeks ago.
It was one of those 'to catch a predator' type of shows
The show was on this very subject and the different ways that identity, banking info, credit cards and other such info was stolen and used.
One particular gadget really caught my attention. It was a device that can easily be purchased online and how it works is that the device looks like you're walking around holding your cell phone.
You get close enough to someones purse or wallet and and this device basically scans the black strip on a card and displays the info.

I was shocked to see how easy this really was. The guy would just walk past a lady carrying her purse, you don't even have to be all that close either. I's not like you need to bump into the person, just walk by closely.
He would then go up to her, call her by her name and ask her if the info on the screen was correct.

Even if this device only works on 1 out of every 10 people because say perhaps you have too much crap in your wallet or purse. Or maybe there's too many cards together and it reads wrong. What ever the case may be. A walk through the local mall could easily get you 25 cards to play with in a short period of time.

What could be the purpose of this device?
Stealing, that's it.
How can a company justify selling these things?

The reason for the show was to stop this and even tho that place stopped selling them you know they're still out there.
I'm going to Google and see if I can locate that show. Pretty disturbing.

I personally don't need to worry because I stay broke like Craig.
What the little lady doesn't take from me recording toys do.

Mike

EDIT: Ok it's coming back to me now. It's not the black strip it's the cards that have the chips in them.
Not the show but HERE'S A SHORT ARTICLE.

Very true brother. I wish I had the answers. I think each person will always have a different take on this....and it definitely depends on the person as well as what they've been through. When I tell you I've had it happen way too often, I'm seriously not kidding. I've had my house broken into 2 times to where I literally, to this day, have bars on all my lower level windows. It turned out it was my best friend doing all the stealing in our neighborhood. I've had 2 CC's hacked, I've had my shed broken into, my dirt bike stolen, tools stolen, car stolen, my rehearsal hall broken into, lost all my gear but my drum kit, the swimming pool store I used to own was robbed 3 times, my truck was stolen to where they went joy-riding and totalled it, and last but not least, I was robbed at gunpoint while out with my girl in 96. If she wasn't with me, I either would be dead or I would have taken the gun away and used it on the robber as I had the chance....I just didn't want anything to happen to her.

In some of these situations, the criminals were caught and did some time, in others, nothing was done and in other cases, no one was caught. When you go through this time and time again, it starts to work on you and you can definitely be a bit more harsh about it. I definitely think there need to be tougher laws or heck, after a certain amount of times, you lose a hand, both hands or a foot....some of that stuff that goes on in other countries does cut down on crime considerably. Rape someone....you lose your willy. It's sick, it's sad, but too many innocent people perish these days and the criminals have all the rights. There just comes a time where we have to say "enough is enough." What that final answer would be....I have no clue.
