The Maillard Reaction

My wife and I went to Mr Tans for the tofu and mixed veggies last night. Yikes the Mongolian Tofu is soooooo good.

Why did I have to stop at the Krispy Kreme and get those hot and fresh donuts and the small coffee on the way back out here?

Why?

Oh... Why?

It's been a few years... but now I remember it like it was yesterday.

Get in my belly.

:-)

Happy New Year.

best regards,
mike

Especially when washed down with the obligatory mung bean smoothie.

I thought you stumbled upon the greatest rapper EVER!

This artist spits out some of the best rhymes I've ever heard and I have no respect for rap as a medium at all.

what's a "jag"?

I don't recall ever hearing that except in the context of the US Navy.

there used to be a Krispy Kreme just about 2 miles from me and it was on the way to work...

but they closed it down.  guess it wasn't getting enough business with all of the "mom and pop" doughnut shops around.

A jag* is like a hangover that hasn't started because you will not leave the party.

We bought a dozen.

*just the way I grew up hearing it used... may not have anything to do with what is in the dictionary. :-)

Jag isn't even used over here but I still knew what was meant.  I think the word I'd likely have used would be 'bender' or perhaps even 'fest' it would have been something that similarly conveyed an over-indulgent detour though.

'Krispy Kreme' is the stranger bit to grasp here for me as it seems like a proprietary name for a 'ring doughnut'.  I doubt what we'd call a doughnut quite hits the same spot as a Krispy Kreme though, as the doughnuts you get from grocery stores here are either too dry (stale) or too stodgy or more commonly both those things.

Doughnuts are best served fresh for sure.

ah!  I've never heard that slang term.

I would have understood "bender" or "fest" tho.

Krispy Kremes are very good, tho!  I could easily "binge" on them!

Krispy Kremes have killed the productivity of more than one meeting I've been in - pretty much killed things after the meeting as well...  LOL!

Depending on where you visit in the UK you'd probably find the best replacement in a local bakers.  There are regional delicacies that serve the same purpose but are called different things, i.e. 'Drippers' in the Gloucestershire region and 'Yum Yums' further north those kind of things have the required excess of fat and sugar that satisfies...

We don't get twinkies over here either, I'm not actually sure what one of those is.
