We do. We have collard greens, blackeye peas, cornbread, sweet potatos, cabbage slaw and I think maybe green beans for the picky weirdo family members. edit> I forgot the smoked sausage!

Traditionally the greens represent folding cash you will earn in the new year and the peas represent change (the kind that jingles in your pocket). I don't know where the tradition came from but I suspect it has Scottish/Irish American roots.

So do you have a New Year Dinner tradition?

Pork and sauerkraut. Pork because pigs are know to move forward, so you want to move forward in the new year, and the sauerkraut represents cabbage or money because it's green..

This year I made boneless pork chops, fried in beer with the sauerkraut and a touch of bbq sauce....mmmmm .........I may make some fried potatoes and onions to go along with that !!!

Thanks, it is good !!

Another tradition I just heard of tonight is to hold a piece of silver in your hand precisely at midnight, it's suppose to bring you good luck with money. This is supposed to please the silver gods.

Happy New Year everyone !!

It'll be a full roast beef dinner here with all the trimmings, not because of any tradition but because I missed out on Christmas Dinner due to a stomach bug.

I therefore intend to fill my boots to the max.

Tradition here for good luck is sauerkraut, I always choose the bad luck, I'd rather eat a sneaker
