The Maillard Reaction

All my neighbors have "heritage" festivities while we just hunker down and stay quiet.

Last night the explosions started at sundown and went through til about 2:00a.m.

This Last year it culminated in full auto rat a tat tat and we called the sheriff because it seemed over the threshold of decency.

This year it was more of a home made ordinance festival or sumthin... we heard deep deep low bassy booms every fifteen minutes or so coming from just on the other side of the tree line.

Happy New Year.

best regards,
mike

We have a really nice thick slice of ham that will be cooked, and some black eye peas are soaking on the counter from last night.....

Here in the south the black eye peas are supposed to represent money.... I eat them cause they're good.

Last night.... I took a power nap and woke up at 11:30pm ..... my wife was doing the same thing.... TV on, some HGTV channel show....

We started to get ready for bed when about 12ish it sounded like the opening volleys of duck season.  Then this huge BOOM.... shook the ground....  She looked at me.... I said yup... I felt that one too.... and commented it was either the rednecks in Bailey or Al Quaida..... most likely the rednecks.

We have that around here too Mike. It started last night around 9:00 and I still heard the occasional boom at 1:00 AM when I went to sleep. What I really hate are the people who feel the need to shoot off rockets for a week. It is worse around July 4th.

Some kids were running around doing what 13-14 year olds do... ringing a doorbell and running away. Some idiots in the neighborhood called the police. I have no idea who the kids were but I am smart enough to know it isn't a threat. I wish I had never moved to a neighborhood with an "association"... but my wife likes the house and I like my wife. Some neighbor even sent me a text telling me about it. I think they are really way too uptight.... then there are the people across the treeline, like your neighbors who get off on explosions. Auto gunfire would make me call the police too.
What I really don't understand is that I thought fireworks were illegal in GA, there are no fireworks stores but a week or two before the 4th they set up big tents in a shopping center lot or two and sell all kinds of fireworks. I guess they drive to Alabama to get fireworks for New Years, maybe that is why they don't shoot them off for a week at new years.

We were in Cologne, Germany a few years ago at new years and they are REALLY crazy there. There is no organized fireworks and they sell the big stuff to anyone. They go down to the Rhine and everyone shoots off rockets etc for about 6 hours. Around midnight is was a constant roar. They seem to have more freedom, they still had cigarette machines around outside, they sell beer in fast food resturants, and carry a bottle with them on public transportation after lunch. They don't seem to feel the need to protect everyone from everything.

Anyway, I hope there are no booms tonight. Since it is raining, maybe it will be quiet.

Thanks, it is good !!

Another tradition I just heard of tonight is to hold a piece of silver in your hand precisely at midnight, it's suppose to bring you good luck with money. This is supposed to please the silver gods.

Happy New Year everyone !!

Well holding silver and eating pork and sauerkraut apparently works. I've had two really cool financial things happen already,,,1) I found a sweatshirt and a package of new undewear on sale very cheap and 2) I called my heating oil supply company to check my account and I have a $507 credit on my account left over from last year I didn't know I had....which they are going to deliver either later today or tomorrow. So that's like finding $507 bucks !!!

Keep it coming !!!
