Because I was 5 or 6 and I'd drawn a portrait of Elvis based on this album cover - I remember sitting at the kitchen table with the album, a piece of paper and a pencil and spending the whole afternoon completely absorbed by this image - the world around me just ceased to exist...

I think that's when my parents really noticed I had some talent for arts and one the two or three times in my life my father actually complimented me on something.

But mostly, just because it is a masterpiece... And I just got a raise. And $40 instead of $104 is quite a deal...

Of course, I already own the digital Legacy Edition and the old 8 tracks for genuine retro experience. But I simply could not let this pass...

And since there may be a few Elvis fans among my friends here, I though it was worth sharing.

Oh this was about Elvis.

Coolest dude ever. Until his final years. Oh and that badge from Nixon and the shooting at the TV were lame too.

I really need to get into Elvis's music more. I think that every time I hear an Elvis record. And his '70 performance of Suspicious Minds in Vegas is probably in my top 3 YouTube videos of all time. Maybe I'll head over to Spotify right now.

If the King was still around, I'm sure he'd say "Thank you, thank you very much."

When I lived on the Cape there was an old guy who was the resident Elvis impersonator. One night me and a pal went out for food and ended up getting pretty drunk. As we were leaving the restaurant, Elvis impersonator (not in costume) was coming in with his wife, and he held the door open for us. As we passed, my friend said "thangyuhverrmuch" in his best Elvis voice, and I bust my ribs all the way home.

I guess you had to be there.

And drunk.

And drunk.

The more important part.

Until I was 11, music meant Elvis, pretty much. Of course, there was John Lennon and a few random songs that I liked, but they were exceptions. Actually, for a while when I was very young, when adults asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I'd reply: Elvis.
