The one thing I'm worried about are the drivers when I upgrade to Windows 7. I ran the compatibility program and it's says all will be fine but will my Edirol FA-66 work? I know there will be problems

I would check in their website ... but again, I think that a lot of software is a bit behind the times right now, and mostly because the hardware side of things is so unsettled at the moment.

The advent of the handheld stuff was great ... it's all SOFTWARE in there, since there is no room for hardware, and this was Windows' biggest hair-raising problem, because they needed this and that and this and that ... and all of a sudden, they have to float without all that! And you already know that is the future of ALL software.

Hardware related stuff, like that one, or my sound card, and others, I think will have the hardest time, mostly because Microsoft does not have the time, the inclination, or the desire to help anyone else get their thing working ... and stifle everyone else at the same time.

And I doubt, at this time, that Edirol, M-Audio and others, have programmers that are up to date with W7 and W8 ... to make sure their products work correctly ... otherwise they would ALREADY have addressed and handled it ... which tells you ... that's another company waiting to die.

Too many of those computer peripheral companies are ... on their last gasp ... when you see AMD/ATI filing for bankrupcy ... you know that when they bought the video card, they were hoping they could save the other side of the business! Didn't happen!

The video card thing and its limitations will likely be falling apart faster than the music stuff, I bet ... since music is more exclusive than gaming is ... as many gaming folks take on the handheld devices which will provide more gamers than the internet versions of many games. In some ways, the shoot'em up games are perfect for your commute, a lot more than more comprehensive games than Warcraft and such! But you alreayd know that graphics have to get simpler and with less hardware!

I have found that W7 is more resistant to malware and other bad stuff. That also could be because Comcast switched from McAfee to Norton 360 but I think W7 is just a much better and safer OS all the way around... it just works. It is faster than XP... and I really liked XP but I had to do a LOT more work keeping everything running right with XP. I realize a lot of that was my own fault but still, IMO, W7 is more secure and stable that XP... maybe W8 is even better, I really have not heard anything but good about W8 (excepting those who do not like metro and that can easily be bypassed I think). Bottom line, I think W7 is head and shoulders better than XP but W8 probably only slightly better than W7 but YMMV.
