No problem. Pain sucks. Might as well snag some ice packs and a heating pad while you're there. Without that stuff I'd be bed ridden most of the time or dead from the pain meds. Cheers.

Caffeine is a horrible drug! I suffered from anxiety for a long time (that deep seated feeling of dread in your chest that something bad was about to happen) until I finally discovered it was caused by coffee. Also, if I have so much as a thimble full of coffee before 6pm I'll be lying awake at 4am with my mind racing. Funnily enough alcohol does the same thing to me. While it helps some people fall asleep, it keeps me awake all night, and not in a good way. l avoid both things these days.

Rain-  I'm with you dude... I never have even sipped an energy drink.  I drink my 2 cups of coffee in the morning, and then call it a day.

Now SUGAR is a whole 'nuther story.....   *sigh*

Heh, I can drink a cup of coffee and go straight to sleep...

For the record, I do not consider a 5-hour energy an energy drink.  The ingredients in a 5-hour energy are mostly b vitamins and similar good stuff, while energy drinks (think Red Bull or Rockstar) are filled with crap that are bad for you.

I purposely developed my addiction to coffee when I was in college. Rituals and routine and short term objectives have always helped me stay on track. The year I started drinking coffee is the year I've had the best grades because I had virtually no attendance issues. I didn't study any harder, but I was there on test days.

At one point I had the coffee machine in my room, and it was on pretty much until I went to bed.

I brought it back to 4 to 6 mugs a day, and now I usually opt for herbal tea as a late night alternative. Unless I'm really psyched or we don't have to get up too early the next morning.

Me too. But what I noticed is that I'll usually sleep for an hour or two and then wake up and it'll take me forever to go back to sleep. And since I seem to need more sleep than in my 20s and 30s...

I make the coffee at anywhere between 10pm to 11pm and push the timer button which is preset for 6:50am.....

I go to bed shortly thereafter and sleep like a rock all night until around 6am-ish when my wife gets up and starts moving around....

I normally stumble out of bed around 7am at about the same time I get a good whiff of the brewing coffee and my wife is getting ready to head to work......  sometimes I just roll over and catch another 30 minutes and roll out at 7:30am ......

weekends I don't prep the coffee.... because roll out is generally no earlier than 8am

The following is based on various articles published and weather it is to be believed or not is anyone's guess;

There are several bioactive compounds in coffee that has benefits such as; strong antioxidants, reduce inflammation and regulate insulin.

Tests at Harvard and in Australia (1986-2008) has shown that coffee reduces the risks of; bowel cancer, aggressive prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, cirrhosis of the liver.

Decaffeinated coffee is just as effective due to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits that remain.

Alcohol, smoking, along with over-weight and lack of exercise are risk factors for cancer and other health problems.

My son's boss buys "energy" drinks for his construction crew. My son, who's the foreman, complains that none of them can function without it. I talked him out of using the drinks himself, reminding him that there is no energy in those drinks. Any energy you get comes out of your own body, not the can, and it's a loan you have to pay back.

Energy drink TV commercials piss me off. They are misleading, and they should be required to warn of side-effects such as hypertension, headaches, interrupted sleep patterns, irregular heartbeat, inability to focus, even potential death from heart attack.

There was this one about 5 Hours Energy, saying that, I don't know, 90% of the doctors they'd asked said they would recommend 5HE to anyone taking similar supplements, and concluded by saying - go ask your doctor, we already did.

I'm sure plenty of people do buy into that.

"It's got electrolytes!"
