Keep on going. When I quit I used an idea. They say that the physical addiction lasts 3 days, after that it is psychological, so I kept reminding myself of that and soon it was all a memory (I did use some Copenhagen in the evening for a while though). I am really happy about it. These days I smoke maybe 6 or 7 cigars a year. I enjoy that and have no problem wanting to go back to the habit. That weight gain is harsh. You should go to your doctor and get some desoxyn until you get a handle on it. If you have a good relationship with a good doctor you probably wont have a problem getting something to help you. They prescribe it for adult ADHD too... I probably need some too, lol. Overweight can be as unhealthy as smoking. You need something to do with your hands, sometimes gum will help but keep your hands busy with something, a couple of small balls or something to work around in your hands will help.... anything to keep you from eating (or smoking). Learn to like feeling a little bit hungry, I have gotten like that. I do not lie feeling full, I like feeling a little hungry... it is an acquired taste but worth it.
Anyway... a few thoughts from someone who has beat more than one addiction.

Congrats Craig!

It's about 10 months and 13 days for me now. I have the occasional ciggie at parties or in a back stage if someone offers, but that's it! Maybe one every two months. I'm in controll

Anyway, I gained some weight too but I managed to keep it under controll using nicotine chewing gum - both the cigarette cravings and candy cravings. At the same time I started making sure I ate a lot of fibre.

Then I quit coffe...

Now I've been shaping up.

Girls have been chatting me up on the tram!!

It's a good life

I don't know if I could have just one without caving. I was way into the habit. Organic, additive free tobacco, hand rolled daily, smoked through an aqua-filter. A far cry from a Marlboro Light.
The brain already wants a mini cigar, but that's how I caved last time.
Cold Turkey....
Has got me....
On the run...

_Yeah, it's best to just stay off it completely. I don't understand how I managed to actually just have one and then leave it.

It started as we were wraping up a HUUUUGE project - 13 tracks, 8 months in the studio, computer dies just as we started to export everything to have it sent to mix to reach a deadline. While waiting for nerd-support I was completely loosing it and had a cigg with my equally stressed out co-rock star. But that's the only one I had.

It started as cold turkey and if I smoke now it's by my own choice, not because I crave it. Everytime I have a cigg I'm a step closer to cave in but I always have a nocitine gum near by. thankfully - ciggies tastes like sh!t now!

I could comment on a few of the opinions above, but I won't.  What I WILL say is that you should find something healthy to do everytime you get a craving.  You've had the habit of smoking on a time cycle so, to make becoming a non-smoker easier, you should replace that habit with something else.  I would suggest pausing a moment to take a few really nice, deep breaths (feel free to add some positive thoughts too - just remember that they should be positive).

Way to go on the progress so far!

Smoking on a time cycle, I suppose it's something like that. Smoking on a stress cycle is more like it. The habit goes deep.

Needless to say, slow, deep breaths are always very good at alleviating stress.

No, you're completely right about doing something healthy every time the craving hits, but you can't stop and jog around the block every time a nicotine fit hits you You can Mantra, mantra, Yantra, yantra, Do most anything you wanna do... Pray through those moments with intent.

I don't think I'd smoke tobacco in that one. Spinach? LOL.  I smoked American Spirit Organic Tobacco, the American Blend.
