  • Sentimental value isn't worth it. If they have abandoned it then why haven't you?

Some times we just have to let it go and face facts. This is now abandoned software!

Well, it's functional software, until it isn't. As long as it does what I need it to, and without problems, I'm content to keep using it.

I can respect your opinion.
But as long as Sonar is working, even as it is right now. I don't see any reason to change.
Its not like we are 10 updates behind. We are not even one update behind.
Last update was supposed to come out last week I believe.
There's no Sentimental value here, Sonar just does what I want it to and im comfortable using it.
If I found a better DAW that fit me more than Sonar does, I would be gone in a second.

So its still working great here.
I hope you find another DAW that suits your needs.
Best of luck making music man.

It's still kind of a pretty great application, so I don't think there's any reason to toss it. ;-) Some people still run 8.5, and that was abandoned a while ago. I still use Photoshop CS4, and it does everything I need it to. I have Studio One and I'll use it, but I definitely won't throw Sonar in the fire until it starts looking like a dinosaur.

Not sure why so many here insist on a binary reaction.
Many here ( especially those who rely on it for their business) are fine with a rational approach of using SONAR right now as it is still viable functioning software, while planning for an eventual shift to a platform that is supported.

Why do you care what I do?

Been a Cakewalk user for a long time. As long as Sonar Plat keeps working I'm sticking with it. I felt a little panicky at first but settled down when CW said they would keep the servers open. Hang in there. Who knows what may happen in the future.

As long as it works, you might as well get as much use as possible.

I'm not saying to throw it away right away but why panick if the plug in is asking you for authorisation. Instead of living in fear of whether to run online or offline whether the server will last. Why not just toss it in the skip nothing is worth turning on your PC and finding that everything is closed and your are stuck with an out of sync out of functioning plugs, fx, pro channel. Why not just ditch it to something more reliable.

What's to let go of? Yes, the Company Cakewalk is no more. SONAR will not get any new fixes or new features. But it does what it does and it still does what it does. Tomorrow it will still do what it does. I'm not in a big hurry to spend another five hundred dollars for a professional grade DAW that I don't know how to use and from a company that I don't know any more about their longevity than I did Cakewalk's.

Sure, I could get the basic or entry level DAW from someone for a lot less. But then all the great features they tout for their Pro-Grade product won't be there - so I'll be in a position of learning to use a less capable program.

Long term, yes, I will probably find a new DAW. I'm in no hurry today, though. I don't understand this urgency to spend large sums of money so quickly for something that also has flaws and drawbacks - and the industry as a whole is losing money, so "Who's Next?" might be the appropriate question.

I'm good with the SONAR software I have. If you're ready to move on, don't let me stop you.
