Do you remember not so long ago when the latest version was released? Users claiming to have used the product for years through all the various versions had an opinion. The main board was alive with them.............

Some were ecstatic declaring the new version the greatest ever with comments such as (I'm paraphrasing these)...........

Finally I have a workflow I can use.............

I think they've done a great job on the upgrade

I've been mixing in it for hours and I love it

the glitching has finally gone...hooray that's gone. No I'm not a fanboy..

I really like the dark appearance and new design

Why don't you moaning guys go back to an Atari?

It's not been out long, this is the start of great things.

The developers are listening to the user base

I'm working far faster in the new version than I ever could the old

Some sitting on the fence......................

not sure about the disappearing menu bar that appears to be because you're using it on an unsupported OS.

Thanks to all the early adopters. I'm just sitting it out to see how it develops

others were less enthusiastic with comments such as........

Wish they'd have spent the time wasted taking feature "x" away on making feature "y" work....

Resizing of UI elements is really lame the narrow mixing view is very unprofessional.... it looks a mess

I don't like the dark theme..... they should hire a professional graphics designer to have a look at the aesthetics, especially readability.

I wish it would zoom better. What bothers me is they've been ignoring these issues with requested fixes for version after version.

I've hit quite a few bugs....things turning themselves on & off. Losing responsiveness for long periods of time. A restart seems to fix it.......

I've installed it and I'm not impressed. Ergonomics and usability have been killed.

Everything is soft and animated with no contrast. WHY?

Give me back the old version that had great workflow, the new version just killed it.

Why does it look like something from Teletubbies. It's ridiculous?

If the old way isn't restored I'm abandoning ship......

I've been a user for 20+years and never moan about price and yes this has stopped me getting things done.........

it's crap, utter crap....

Grey on grey, names too small, I'm using this professionally GUI is a real pain in the ass

They are just copying Studio One

I'm staying with the old version it worked perfectly.........

I am finding things very hard to decipher and it just looks mashed together in a non coherent way.

Anyway that's enough about the Cubase 7 release and one thread on their forums.

It just struck me how similar they are to our own forums, version releases, the users and individual opinions.

'Nowt queerer than folk eh?

Yep!

I suppose once quantum computer technology is released along with direct-to-human-mind interface with access to 10,000 quantum powered plugins (instruments and FXs including a library of virtual session musicians along with vocalist and lyricist all stored on a micro quantum chip) all working harmoniously 24/7 without a single glitch....

Butt I guess peeps will still complain about something... {DOH}!

I make comparitive complaints.

Like why is it 'x' has so many buggy features that never work as described per square inch than 'y'.

It's the only way I can ensure I upset every fanboy without prejudice.

There's that thing too when we see someone like our Tom Riggs making a genuine complaint and last ditch plea about long standing neglect with an eMail support request and then ever helpful somebody inevitably chimes in with "I have nothing but praise for the timely support I've had when needed" which will then normally be followed with a chorus of similar posts, like it's a real fix for the actual issue being described.

So again I'd say there were more seemingly automatically devoted, devotees showing their devotion when something that looks like it may be mildy ugly shows up here than anywhere else I visit.

I have no reason to visit the Cubase forums so I can't make a comparison there.

My views on X2 though having just recently put it through it's paces are mostly positive.  Unlike X1 it actually does do a bunch of stuff in addition to what I can already do in 8.5.

I'm sure most forums are the same DAW or otherwise.

Cubase is the only other DAW forum I visit as it's the only other DAW I've used, albeit an old version (3 IIRC) but I do keep up to date with the new releases and check out their forum from time to time.It just struck me as funny that the complaints and praise are all basically the same.

I can only imagine the uproar here if CW ever do a Steinberg and upgrade the forum software. User account post counts all went back to zero - but don't tell Bapu that happened, he'll have nightmares.

I'd like that, then I could deny that I'd ever said anything here, ever!!!

I do think whilst forums may have common themes that occur the vibe, the collective morality, demographic sensibilities, what people choose to major on etc. etc. can vary greatly between them. The biggest exception is that the forum software seems to suck everywhere you go.

Not that one is any better than the other, just different, this one however does have a strong sense of community that I don't see as distinctly elsewhere.

It's the same thing with phone users when it comes to Android versus iPhone etc....the forums are always full of people who think the grass is greener on the other side. It makes researching your new purchase an absolute nightmare. Your decision boils down to "which product seems to have the fewer complaints, based upon my totally unscientific method of browsing forums and reading reviews on Amazon."
