Perhaps Pete is going to attempt to make up for the fact that he cut Tom Bombadil out of the Fellowship of the Ring. (He can't, by the way...)

True, dat.

funny enough, the excellent BBC Radio adaptation (have a listen if you get the chance) also cuts out Tom...it doesn't matter too much to the story, but it is the part of LOTR closest to The Hobbit in spirit i think...

IMDB lists three Hobbit films under Peter Jackson's filmography, with release dates of 2012, 2013 and 2014. So it does indeed appear to have been split into three movies.

Even though it looks like the Hobbit will be the first two and the supplemental tie in stuff for the third, when one thinks about the thickness of the three LOTR books compared to the single much shorter book for the Hobbit, it will be interesting to see how a reasonable pace is maintained.

I hope he doesn't screw it up. I remember seeing 'Fellowship' when it came out, and being absolutely gutted knowing I'd have to wait a year to see the 'The Two Towers', it was that good. I'd love to get that feeling again.
