Here's my honest take on this subject., IMO as follows; In regards to the Mayan 'Calender', IMO that long-count calender simply renews after Dec 21 and the world will not end.
Unfortunately there will be continued concerns such as; wars, natural disasters, economic crash, depression, poverty, plagues and cosmic events (asteroids) global catastrophic disasters yet humans somehow survived.
Humans have always been at risk for centuries, that thought has and will continue to be a hot topic; cashing in on those fears to sell books and DVD's will continue to put the profits into the pockets of people motivated by fame and 'money'....
Money is at the core issue (seed of all problems in life such as; crime, poverty and famine) and 'some' of these grim productions are diverting that focus away for example; for over 2000 years and
now in developed countries we still have the very rich and the working poor and to the point that poverty continues to be a problem in developed counties and there is no excuse for that! Obviously thousands of years ago civilization set off on the wrong path.
With no threats to our rights for example;
freedom; just take away the flimsy global economic wheel and the powers of tyrants and the seed of greed; and finally begin to eliminate corporate waste of Earth's resources and damage to the environment with much more focus on protecting not only all humans but all life (animals, endangered species) and the global environment....
And then also begin to advance more rapidly in critical areas such as; eliminating poverty and rapid advances in medicine to find cures, better more effective treatments, extend the quality of life and human life-span well beyond 200 years. This is not science fiction and yes I'm I big fan of Star-Trek
Out of curiosity I have seen the movie 2012, watched documentaries about the Mayan's, Bible, Nostrodamus prophecies, some of these productions showed two side to balance; to weigh-up the pros and cons. Reading into a lot of those prophecies can be interpreted differently and that's why it's been the hot topic for centuries and will continue on and on.
