Read This Article

A lot of users probably accept apps without first reading and thoroughly understanding 'privacy' policies.   The above article explains a particular 'face*book' app (one of many) and what it 'actually' does.  I think Go*ogle and other sites have a similar apps and policies.  And I suppose installing/using Chrome is also another example.

Also, unknown to a lot of users; FB has opened their Voting - Poll, if anyone using FB is concerned about FB 'Privacy' policies and still using FB?... then I suggest users  vote  Voting starts; Dec 3 and ends on Dec 10.

It seems that everyone I know who uses FB are unaware of this ((.Poll.)) so I figured I might post about it here to let others know because according to an article voting is valid only if at least 30 percent of FB users vote and two prior votes never reached that threshold..   IMO what is not clear is: (1) there are a lot of users who are unaware of this Poll, for example; no Email notification, I just manage to stumble on a news article about it and (2) many others have not used their accounts for a long, long time. Thereby I guess that all this counts in regards to FB 30 percent, policy.

Anyway, I just wanted to share the above information to anyone who is unaware.  If anyone uses FB and other similar sites; make sure to regularly check your settings and thoroughly read and understand privacy policies before accepting and using apps.

Thanks SC.  FB seems to be going the way of so many great ideas, once the Big Corp mindset takes hold.  I use it only to post the occassional update and as a prompt for birthdays and finding people from yesteryear.  I gave up installing any applets or signing on to those ridiculous chains a long time ago.

yeah the stuff that's happening online now is really frighting in a George Orwell "1984" sort of way.

thanks for the heads up.... I don't click on those apps because I know they invade my privacy.... but just being there is bad enough....

then yesterday came the story that the US government along with Google is already capturing and saving everything sent across the internet..... scary stuff.... huge storage servers.... "for future reference and use" so they say.

Funny, I just got an email from them, something about a poll. Deleted without reading.
I don't do apps/games/reposting or link-clicking there at all.

Hi,

And I'm about to remove Google Chrome from my computer ... I don't like the fact that now they are dropping adverts and spam the the bottom side and on the right side!

It was good for a while ... it's spam now!

My father in law has been dead for 2 years and he is on FB and sometimes gets comments and such......From what I can tell ,you put your heart soul and info on there and they own it pretty much forever.

Those pics they took of you naked and drunk on your front lawn when your mother-in-law visited will never go away. What you say that you want to unsay is still there.

I stopped being a regular contributor to it several years ago. The peacocks can strut their stuff there all they want I don't trust it any more.

Pseudo-Democracy, FB Style news article in regards to the polls reaching that 30 percent target.

Agree with a lot of the comments on this thread,

I also rarely use FB for example; I use my 'Band-Page' sorta kinda like a free postcard style advertisement and it includes links to my songs and store.

As for my 'personal' FB page; it's been a long time since I've added any content on it.  I have all my private and security settings on 'Red-Alert' LOL, most lists are hidden, hardly any content to display, friends list is also hidden.... but my friends list continues to grow slowly and I have no idea who most of these people are. Dang it, that page is practically bare. What the heck LOL!!

Initially I was told that I needed to have a personal page first and then get my band page; that band page is a must-have requirement to add my music, additional details and store on FB.

I guess most of the activity about me is by other people who continue to use facebook and share for example; someone shares my music link from ReverbNation with another group-page and from that I got more band-page likes and friends on RN. So as it turns out I don't really need to participate much on FB.  I came to this realization after reading articles about social sites for bands; branding; claiming identity; and expanding Internet presence.

So uh..   What do you suggest I trust more?  Facebook, McDonald's, or Monsanto?

Out of those three, if you had to pick just one..   Which one would you suggest I have faith in?

Ya know what..   Just gimme a big mac.   at least they've recently dropped the pink slime..    Although I hear the buns are made out of DryWall or something..   The same chemical or something

Something you would least expect such as a sandwich purchased from a popular fast food restaurant may contain E,coli (common), a piece of metal or a human body part (rare but possible) Finger in Burger and in another separate incident: Finger Found in Burger

Would you like fries with that?..

Enjoy your meal

In regards to this thread/topic it's not just a matter of trust, it's also a matter of using precaution much like all sites. In fact the Internet itself is a risk and it also contains all sorts of private information (bank accounts, medical records and just about everything else). So unless one lives under a rock completely off the nation's grid --- then I'm sorry to say; we're all part of the Matrix!

Just another reason why I avoid social disease sites.  Besides, I wouldn't want all those people I used to have to work to avoid to find me anyway!
