Be careful what you wish for in regards to Microsoft buying Cakewalk.
If that happens, their goal will be to create a Windows app to compete with Garage Band.

It would still be better than no more SONAR, ever
Not a 1st choice, but there might not be that many interested parties.

I think their goal will be to stick it to Apple and Logic and perhaps destroy ProTools as an afterthought.

I'm cool with that.

I am actually pretty distraught over this. I really feel that SONAR is the best DAW, certainly for me. There are so many little things that I can't even get into that connect me and my whole audio business with SONAR. The sum of these little parts are huge. I was so looking forward to further development. I am absolutely speechless right now. This simply cannot be...

This is a great post. After reading about what Gibson is doing to Cakewalk today, Cakewalk should be saying #MeToo

I wonder if there's a way to get Izotope into the idea of buying and continuing development of Cakewalk. I believe they're located in the same city, and doesn't Dan Gonzalez (who used to work for Cakewalk) now work for Izotope? They just came out with the Spire recording system; maybe they'd be interested in getting into the desktop DAW market? I wouldn't have a clue about who to contact over there, but I'll do some searching.

Isn't kind of late for that now. Aren't the software development engineers out of there as of last Friday? As others have pointed out if Cakewalk was a great profit center, wouldn't Gibson try to sell it?

Some people like myself have already jumped the sinking ship and I've decided to go with Studio One 3 Professional. I have one album that I'm finishing and when the mix is down, I'll close down Sonar and Master in S1.

I pulled the trigger on Studio One Pro too.  The Sweetwater sale was too good to pass up.

My concern as well. - would be good if there was a possibility they would morph Home Studio into a GarageBand wanna-be and still keep a suite of professional tools? I think Sonar is amazingly matured. I hope there's a path to upgrade to Platinum from Pro for me. I'll use it till my DAW dies.
