I have a bunch of domain names that I've used for various things over the years.

Just got the obligatory call last night, always some barely intelligible Asian sounding guys/girls.

I've tried over the years being as rude and obnoxious as I possible can, doesn't help, next year around domain renewal times they call trying to scam me, sounding like they are the ones handling my domains and that I need to "update" them to "new servers" or whatever **** they come up with, I handle my own domains.

Now I just try to keep them on the phone stringing them along trying to waste as much of their time as I can, first sounding like I'm not interested... then faking interest asking them for "help" moving domains (And failing miserably, more time waisted)

I was having a hard time last night not cracking up, I got almost 45 min out of them before they gave up.

Evil? Yeah..  Fun?... oh hell yeah

Anyone else getting scammer calls?

I use domain guard that allows me to list anonymously on who is. No calls, no scams, no hassle! Now I just need to figure out how I can get all the political lobbies to quit calling my house!

Only problem with anonymous domains is it's a pita to move 100+,  and most registrars now force you to remove domain protection and then have a long period before you can update the nameservers to force you to not move, then all the scammers spidering scripts have plenty of time to pick your credentials up.

I try to make the scammers lifes as miserable as possible, last night I got several deep sighs out of my "handler" before he gave up, soooooo sweet

I just had a "bill" for $65 from "DNS Services"  based in Vancouver, WA. It says it's for "Managed DNS Backup Business Services." It looks exactly like an invoice, and there's a tear off strip with which you can make your payment. It has the name of my website on it, as well as information about the name servers linked to it.

I've had this website for 7 years so I'm used to annual renewal fees for the hosting and the name, but I've never had anything like this. So I read the small print. It says "This is a solicitation for the order of goods or services, and not a bill, invoice or statement of account due. You are under no obligation to make any payments on account of this offer unless you accept this offer."

So there you have it. An "offer," disguised as an invoice made to look as though I owe them money. These lowlifes are really getting desperate. I wonder how many people will receive this letter and just write the check thinking that it's part of their normal annual website fees?

That said, I'm also sick of the companies who claim to be "affiliated with Google" and who call you claiming that they can help your business listing reach the #1 spot in Google Places.  I get a couple of these every week. I used to just hang up but recently I've been taking the opportunity to take a swing at them. I ask them "are you an official affiliate of Google" over and over until I get them to admit that no, they're just some lowlife company trying to scam me and using Google's name as a sweetener.
