Sir Les
Hello Forumies.
I'm Back...
I've been busy building and testing sonar x2a on one system and Allen and Heath r16....Not bad so far, but I have noticed on occasion when recording, there is a Hard drive meter in Sonar x2a,...When recording 16 tracks at once to a WD black 1tb 6gbs Drive , sometime less tracks...during those recordings, the hard drive meters jumps way up on occasion in Sonar, which causes artifacts in the recordings.
I've tried turning up the buffer to max level and playing around with Sample rates with the audio applet and within sonar ...and reduced it a bit the other way in other tests...but on occasion this meter jump still occurs regardless.

I turned off the onboard sound card...and onboard nic . to free up IRQs, and second Allen and heath recommend the nic internet networking be turned off as it causes issues.

Not sure about hard drive indexing..."Protools" recommended to turn this off...and I think the hard drives SATA and USB are still set like that...but I tried turning it on for USB drives on my primary system  last night....to help speed them up when accessing them and the content...(loops and libraries)
also noticing when booting  Primary system / SSD...long boot times are noted on this  Primary system...but not on my new secondary system build using SSD/ WD element usb 3 drives,...and no tweaks other than turning off eye candy and power management/sleep/monitor sleep.
I think the cause is because of USB My Book Drives x2 on my first system....Latest drivers are installed in windows 7, but boot up is taking a long time because the seek time of these drives is very long by the bios or chipset?...not sure why as they are on usb 3 ports...also very slow in windows...The power tweak has been done for the power to stay on in the device manager, and the drivers are up to date.

What is causing these problems?.. hick up...?

So...As I have tweeked the system for best performance on the primary system, (did the power setup config to keep all drives on ), and turned off video effects in Win 7 64bit....I am left to turn off stuff in Config sys ...which I have no idea what is what, and which is how....

So if something is causing this problem, it may be a win service or something like that running in the background....if not..Not sure where to turn next.

So if anyone can help me find a cure, I would be very thankful....

System specs needed?...

Let me know, and I'll try to post up what is asked for....
I believe my specs will be added under this?..let us see...Oh I removed the UAD card/irq issues, and forget about that added sata card, cause that did not work.
once those two things were removed from the system, it stopped crashing...and I am able to use Sonar to the point where I get so so recordings...depending on when those hick up occur...

Thanks

Sir Les

Sir Les
ok..I found updates for mother board that might solve the usb problem of slowness and such..with a bios update...
And just about everything else there after for the MB...although windows 7 says the latest drivers are installed...I will do the deed with all due dilligence, and see what happens there after.

Thanks for standing by.

Sir Les
Opps, I was looking at the sabertooth x78 updates, I have x58...almost made a big boo boo there...Lucky me...So no go on the mobo getting the latest...cause it already has them.

WD usb 3.0 my book firmware update is my next move.

Sorry but I have to back up all my libraries from both usb drives...before hand, as specified...and it is really slow goings...

Any word on MSCONFIG setup dos and don'ts?
Or anything on indexing Drives...on or off?...
What about CPU VT ( virtualization ) technologies in the Bios?..on or off? =  /Pro tools/Sweetwater tech said to turn this off for Pro tools 9...which I had so many issues with, I stopped using and uninstalled couple of months ago....and turned to sonar x1 and now x2, and soon x3.. ...so a lot of the tweaks I have already done for Protools still exist on this Primary system....Should I undo them tweaks?...or leave em be?..Do more?....Any one?...

Sir Les
WD USB Firmware and Net Frame work 4 update  Done...Still slow boot times due to USB drive detection in Boot sequence start up.
It seems to take a lot of time to detect the content or drive itself, or something like that.
Not sure if this is a problem in Window 7 64bit...the drive does seem to work faster now in accessing content in win 7...no delays noted yet, since the updates.

Could this problem be part of the glitching of other Sata Drives?.
When I record I use a Sata 3/6gbps WD Black 1tb Drive as the target drive for audio and project info.
I've also noticed when opening a cwp file on a dedicated drive other than C:/ it takes a long time to draw in the waves in the tracks, and just plane slow load times...But if the CWP is on the C:/ Drive with content, it loads faster.

When I do sessions, the recordings can go aslong as 3hrs....sometimes I stop/start the recording, and sometimes I let it roll right through...
Does this cause Problems with continued long write times to the drive?...or is something interrupting the drive?, as like turned off hard drive Indexing? or windows anti virus/security/ firewall?...or some background culprit ...ect...So many variables....I just need some Guidance from some one who knows.

Other than that...Sonar x2a has worked with out crashes for the past two months....the only issue I have which has been a problem since installing is the hard drive Hick up....and that hick up problem crashes Acid Pro 7.0e....So sonar handles it, but the audio recording suffers.

Any one got a clue??

Well I bought Sonar X3...but before I install, I would like to find reason and solve for that Hick up....So please feel free to post , I know I'm a nut job...But I like making Music with my buddies...and need solutions, I just have no clue to windows Config or configerations to make in Win 7's that would resolve the problem.
 regards.

Thanks for reading....

Sir Les
I forgot that there was a windows Virus essentials Program installed...this could be the problem...I just turned it off.

Will give the system a run...maybe it was that?

Mesh
Sorry to interupt your chain of thoughts Sir Les, but I do hope someone pops in and helps you out.

Sir Les
Thanks Mesh...I feel this to be a looking glass kind of method....I Seem to think better like this....Not that input isn't wanted it is...But from my last post here on this particular forum for computers/with this very system...I got zippo in any input not even a hello...So I went on trying to solve for, and or allowing the "hick up" to be one of those pests that persists....But I know it can get better or remedied, if one finds the root cause.

So by doing all this troubleshooting technique, and tweaking the OS....I find my own answers sometimes....,...and in doing so, I may help others along the way.....In hope or just as a by product.

Thanks for interrupting my train of thought...I needed a break.
Back at it now....Defrag or not to defrag the record drive is something I am now pondering...to put a tin hat on it.

Wink.

Les
