How many people know that Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, with his impeccable English, spoken & singing, hails from Dunfermline in Scotland?

John Martyn  was born in Glasgow, but spent a lot of time in Surrey, so he bounced quite naturally from one to the other;

Harsh, but entirely fair.

Interesting how many musicians and actors from Scotland manage to shed that stigmata and find success despite it. I'd never have guessed Ian Anderson was a Scot. There must be some special school up there, like the ones here in the U.S. that teach up-and-coming broadcasters how not to talk like a southerner.

I believe it was David Frost who either coined the phrase "Mid-Atlantic" or at least was the first to have it applied to him. Not coincidentally, he was also the first British talking head to enjoy success in America. Paved the way for Benny Hill.

Anderson didn't live in Scotland that long, you can hear more of a Blackpool twang in his singing, especially on words like 'morning'.

It's quite annoying hearing 'Jon Anderson' from time to time.
