Using 8.5.3

Made a new project, set the tempo. I want four beats before the metronome starts, so I put a 4 in the record count in.

The metronome starts right away?

Isn't that what it's supposed to do?

The metronome starts straight away but the transport doesn't yes?

This is exactly how it's supposed to work, unless you want a silent count in of course

Alex, are you wanting 4 beats in the track(s)?

With what you've done, you will always get the metronome "before" the recording starts. On playback there is no "count in" IIRC.

You were expecting Lawerence Welk's voice?

I shut the metro off and allow 8 beats as the time line is rolling...I start the music on measure 3 beat 1... not counting the pick up notes.

Recently I have allowed the metro to count in anyway for 1 measure, then I still get a rolling 8..... by the time the music starts... I'm ready.... I've had time to sip my favorite beverage and grab my pick off the desk...

I ALWAYS start my song at least four measures in to give me enough breathing room before I start playing (so a total of 8 measures with the metronome count in). If I'm comfortable enough and don't want to wait that long I'll just move the Now Time line closer. Then after I've finished the project I take the export and toss it into a new project for some polishing and move the stereo track closer to the start leaving a second or two of silence before the audio begins. Starting right on beat one cuts off any lead in noises and doesn't leave room for extra sounds I might want to add building up to the song. It's a lot easier than having to move umpteen tracks/clips at once to make room.

I've seen a lot of threads on here of people complaining or generally being befuddled about things that are easily solved by using this method. It's kind of weird actually. :-/

And a one-a, and a two-a...
So just ditch the metronome and make a beat track.
You can fit to improvision later and humanize it. The metronome won't do that.
