the staining is your Tannin mate (the same stuff found in red wine, grapes, cranberries, chocolate
Red wine is thought to be a fat burner too. I wonder if chocolate is? Perhaps I should make it my mission to find out. Thorntons here I come........

Drinking too much tea can cause kidney stones. All that sediment you see in the cup ... that's just the tiny bit left over after you've slurped down the rest of it.

Tea's, powder drinks such as Kook Aid, those little Crystal Light water flavoring packets ... all that stuff in excess can cause kidney stones.

My mom used to make ice tea by the gallons. People loved it and they'd stop in for some throughout the day during the summer. Friends, neighbors, and guys my brother worked with in the Police department. It was a small town and everybody knew everybody.

She used a gallon pickle jar, all cleaned out of course, and made the tea in it. She'd boil it on the stove for a while, then mix it with water, sugar, and ice in the jug. It was so cloudy you could shine a flash light on the side of the jar and you couldn't see light through the other side. I drank it for years, and look at me ... I turned out ok. Right? ;-)

Bub - there are also studies that green tea helps prevent kidney stones :)
The trouble is with all of these studies, is that I never know what to believe.
Tea's been around and been used as a preventitive medicine for centuries.
My mother in law is 85 and has drunk tea by the gallon all her life and is as fit as a butcher's dog. She takes nothing except an occasional Ibroprufen for a headache.

Lots of healthy things have staining properties, and the color is what makes it healthy. Look at beets, raspberries, strawberries etc. The more colorful your food is, the better it is for you (breakfast cereals are exempt from this rule).

It can definitely stain your teeth though. Green tea is much easier on your teeth than black tea, but nonetheless...I always rinse my mouth with water after drinking coffee or tea.

Putting boiling water with vinegar in the cup is a good way to loosen the stain so you can scrub it off.

There are few  drinks in the world that are proven to have as many positive effects to your health as green tea.
I grind the leaves first, so that I also drink all the leaves with the tea.

In one research they came to the conclusion that the "japanese way" (grinding the leaves) helps better to prevent stomach- and such cancers than the "chinese way" (leaving the leaves whole).

I believe drinking the bagged green teas leaves you without most of the positive effects.

Just be sure you cross your teas and dot your eyes.
