So there's an interesting thread upstairs relating to an issue with panning and mono/stereo.  All is going well until an experienced poster adds a comment that the OP might want to spend some time with the manual.  Not unreasonable, and this wasn't a RTFM type rant- in fact he started out 'No offense..'.  And wham, OP takes major exception.  Now that thread is probably light up and die.

People can be so quick to ire...

Was thinking of adding "it's safer in the CH", but I know you're already thinking of wind-up responses

Do you really think he was quick to ire?

He has one guy pestering him about something that he has imagined is the cause yet isn't actually applicable.

There are a few sincere people trying to teach the OP how to help them self... Good job!

And then someone throws a signature "I don't really have to read or respond here but I like busting people's chops" post down the rhetoric chute.

It's been going on for 5 days... and finally the person points out that the wild assumptions aren't appreciated.

That seems fairly reasonable to me.

It is surely some small detail in the set up... and it may be awkward that the OP will have to develop some skills specific to learning how to get help here at the forum... but that's where it's at.

The situation doesn't seem worthy of gawking.

best regards,
mike

Lol..... I think his response to daveny5 was harsh but fair..... Whether or not he should be reading the manual it was still a pretty condescending post. No we don't get paid but then again no one forces anyone to respond to posts.

If I try and help someone and they don't appear to be taking the advice I just bow out rather than respond as daveny5 has. Hardly friendly is it?

I remember, many years ago, when I was still using S4PE, I created an account to ask some questions.

Three people responded. Bitflipper, CJ and DaveNY. CJ and DaveNY replied ... "RTFM" and basically told me to go F off. Bitflipper actually tried to help me.

Some people just aren't any good with finding things in manuals, especially with the ****ty way the search function works in Sonar. I don't think there was a PDF available back then.

Like I said before ... some people get off on busting balls. But anyway ... the responses to the thread don't surprise me in the least.

If I tell someone to RTM, I leave out the F, and if I can find it in the manual myself, I try to post a page number for them. Facing a 1200 + page manual kind of freaks some people out ... myself included.

Although I'm one who does try to RTFM, I usually prefer third-party manuals or training videos/classes.  I think it takes someone a little removed from the actual developers (who are just too close to things) to help explain it.

I know I've been guilty myself when I try to write things like a user's guide for software I've written.  I'm so used to it that I forget to identify things that seem completely self-evident.

Sometimes I forget that a few people are just born bass players, ya?

Me and Daveny5 go back a long way.

I'm not allowed to use the 'T' word any more, but that particular word describes him perfectly (you could say, to a 't').

Still, him telling someone to RTFM is a vast improvement on his previous modus operandi in the Home Studio forum of insinuating that anyone who didn't know the basics about the software was obviously using a pirated version.

In the 'Goodbye' thread upstairs, I was sorely tempted to politely point out to him that AnnieDog was not, as he kept referring to the OP, a female of the opposite sex, but a bloke called Barry

Dave's just another of the high-posting, self-aggrandising, pompous, self-important forum dinosaurs that talks a good game but doesn't have a single note of recorded output available for anyone to listen to.

What a complete twit.
