so is anything strange going to happen if I upgrade windows 8 64 bit to windows 8 .1?

I'm using the V 700 hardware and just getting ready to install the Windows 8 drivers and hook everything to a new machine. I'm assuming the drivers are the same. Right?

Thank you.

There are new Win 8.1 drivers for several Roland devices.  That is the only thing I've seen so far.  For my system, other than the Roland Octa-Capture update, I didn't have to update any other device (recording or general PC) for Win 8.1.

Thanks
I didn't see any for the V-700 so far.
I won't get the update quite yet.

I have Win8x64 as well and was considering the 8.1 update. My only (hardware) issue is that the drivers keep dropping on my Line 6 Toneport interface when I switch my playback devices in Win8. Otherwise, they work fine. My system also goes into sleep mode at night, which might be causing this minor issue.

I've been reading up on disabling "USB selective suspend" (the goal of this setting is to reduce overall power consumption during sleep mode) which I'm not sure if it will or will not help.

I don't use Sleep, Hibernate, etc.  I also set my power configuration that only the monitor "powers off" after a specific period.  Otherwise the PC remains on.  However, I don't normally leave mine on overnight.  I power it on in the morning and off at night after I'm done.  Also, if I'm going to be gone for an extended period during the day I'll power the PC off.

I'm not always the cautioning type. For me, I have gotten my interface working on my kids laptop before considering the daw.

And I'm still hesitating.

In the past, I've always left my PC on as the sleep function didn't seem to work properly (I also was using Vista on my older 32bit machine), so i kept it on and the PC still works fine.
Although I'm not running into any (real) issues with putting my new build to sleep, I'm still not too sure if it's a good idea or not.......I'm concerned about the long run.....is it better to just keep it on or let it sleep??
My typical usage is about 2-4 hrs. at night, on a daily basis. Shouldn't the newer systems be more sleep compliant/energy savers, and less problematic than the older ones, or have you been running into a lot of user issues with them using this function?

Thanks Jack.....I always appreciate your knowledge and experience with PC's/IT support.

I apologize Steve for hijacking this thread, but I truly thought your Q was resolved after you decided to wait on the 8.1 upgrade. Sorry again.
