I hate battling big crowds, regardless of the entertainment medium. That's why I wait a week before seeing new films, always go mid-week, and choose the earliest showing of the day.

Me too.  I always aim for the sweet spot: the last week before the movie goes away.  I pretty much only go to see 3D movies which I can't experience at home, and limit my theater going to spectacle events (loved Valerian even if the story was a bit lame, the visuals were magnificent).  In doing this, I often used to overplay my hand and miss movies I was interested in by waiting too long.  Then I finally figured it out - duh!  On Tues., go to Fandango and see what tickets are being sold for the following week.  If the movie is currently playing and there are no tickets for the next week, it's time to go to the movies.  Wed. or Thurs. late afternoon is just about perfect.  Minimal attendance of a-hole teenagers with their portable electronics.

Slightly OT, but related since this is about the original Bladerunner musical score.  Check this out (~8 minutes in length):

This guy really knows his synthesizer stuff.  Very impressive IMO.

Quite under-rated, Rutger Hauer. Terrifying in 'The Hitcher'.

That was an awesome film in it's day. I'm usually quite immune to "scary" films, but that one did give me the creeps.

The wife wanted to see this tonight, but it's been decades since I've seen the original.

Maybe now we'll stay in and watch the original tonight and hold off on the new one for a matinee tomorrow...

I thought every actor was a cameo in Sin City, no?

This would be a great choice to go to the movie theater for! Also an excuse to go on  a date with XX.  I haven't been in a long while

Hi,

I'm actually hoping they show the Van Gogh film here in Portland ... I think it will be much more interesting than the "sequel" ... to one of the prettiest films ever made, when one mixes all its music, cinematography, direction, details ... and little things all over that are just ... amazing.

I'm going to catch this sequel, and likely in the big screen, but I will be honest with you ... if it does not stand up, I'm going to cram it ... there were way too many things that were beautifully done on the other film, and so far all the publicity in this, is just a bunch of words about the story, and no details about the rest of the film, and that means that ... it's not likely to be half as far out as the other one.

One last thing ... when the original came out, so many film critics were thrown off that the film was badly rated, but it was one of those films that stuck to people's memories - the right kind of people, not the jaded film reviewers -- and the film became a classic within 10 years, when it finally caught up with its money, and it's likely that the DVD market is what made this film ... because since that first day of its release, it has been monstrous.

I am not sure that the sequel will live that long. While I like Hans Zimmer and a lot of his work, I am not sure that he can do something like Vangelis did, that helped the film so much, and was so well used. Hans Zimmer, however, worked with Nicolas Roeg several times, and he was one of the very first folks that showed MTV what to do a few years later ... and Nic was a part of "PERFORMANCE", which had one of the first and most famous videos ... Mick Jagger doing "Memo from Turner" (and Turner is the main character in the film -- Jagger!) .Hans came to this film later, and the likelihood is that he just did fill ins here and there, but in terms of adjusting it, to even come close to the work done by Vangelis ... this is already a difference from the original, some of which was choreographed and written around the music more than a handful of moments. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Jan Hammer isn't involved with the soundtrack, Hans Zimmer is though.
