Another argument against Deckard being a replicant is that if they wanted to manufacture a purpose-built replicant-killer they would surely have made him at least as tough and capable as their most dangerous model. But he is easily duped, outrun and out-fought by multiple replicants. Was he a re-purposed office assistant model?

Exactly. Zhora kicked his butt relatively easily.

Another thing is that the replicants don't feel pain or they ignore it but when Roy breaks Deckards fingers he feels it and it causes him problems holding his gun.

Gaff, at the very end, leaves an origami, which is a piece of silver paper you might find in a cigarette packet, and it’s a unicorn. Now, the unicorn in Deckard’s daydream tells me that Deckard wouldn’t normally talk about such a thing to anyone. If Gaff knew about that, it’s Gaff’s message to say, “I’ve read your file, mate.”

To me, this just says that Gaff knows about Rachel (a unicorn among the replicants) and a reminder to Deckard that he will come after them if they decide to bolt. Again, reinforcing the fugitive status of Deckard and Rachel.

I guess I'm going to have to read the book now...

I agree that the American sci-fi writers may have started exploiting the idea of altered states in the 50's but it is a very old concept.

I was reminded of a quote I once read or heard and went and looked it up.

"Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, a veritable butterfly, enjoying itself to the full of its bent, and not knowing it was Chuang Chou. Suddenly I awoke, and came to myself, the veritable Chuang Chou. Now I do not know whether it was then I dreamt I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man." - Zhūangzi (c. 369 BC – c. 286 BC)

Will not say anything about the movie, as I have watched it only for Ryan Gosling.
But I do like the Blade Runner coat...Any suggestions where to look for it...????
