I got a hijacker. Something that would reroute all my Google searches. I updated and ran Malwarebytes full scan. IT found and deleted two things... still had the maware. I tried to run Hijackthis but it warned me that some things were not being scanned. It removed the option to run HJT as administrator. I ran CCleaner.
Finally I did a sustem restore to the 14th. The only thing I have done is to install a Quicktime update that popped up. I know I should be more careful... but anyway, be aware. I think that is what it was. Everything seems OK now.
 
MS has just added 12 or 13 updates, mostly security, one MS Defender. I usually install them all with no problems but not I am a little gun shy. I will probably install them since system restore seems to have fixed this.
 
So.. if you get a popup message to update Quicktime... think twice. Maybe go to the Apple site and update from there. It was scary. I have spent DAYS in the past getting rid of things like this. I always get it done but it can be a REAL PITA. I just wanted everyone to be aware...

Beware the pop up updates.... good advice. 

I just DL'd the latest Quicktime update 2 days ago.
No issues here. Also I just ran Malewarebytes and all files scanned, no issues found.

I had the same problem a few months ago.  Took almost a week with my computer techs to get it "cleaned" up.  They thought it was and false Adobe update that did it.  Be careful out there;-)

Just for the record, the only time I connect my recording PC to the internet is for recording related download's and updates.
Since I don't do any film/video work or have any 'tools' that require Quicktime I don't have it installed on that PC.
I do all my Apple related stuff on my old laptop.
I like Apple products such as my iPhone, iPod and iPad but they don't play well with Windows all the time. I personally keep them away from my stable running recording set-up.


EDIT: I stand corrected. I do use V-Control Pro on my iPad but I don't remember if it requires Quicktime. I think it does so if I get a pop-up for an update I will deny and go to the Apple site and DL'd it there.

There.  I've said it.

You were infected before the update if you got a proper "QT like" update message from the QT updater and it led to you downloading more malware. QT does not auto-update from a webpage, but a local app. QT has releases an update, and it is legit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5581 But, it breaks the QT Pro license from QT 6 (this is in their release notes) and forces you to repay for a pro license, so I did not upgrade.

i love it.
its a challenge that i have fought and won.
i can remove almost any virus in under 30 minutes.
if it was my computer and i had an idea where it came from that is.

someone elses computer and i have a blank check going into it...sometimes an hour..2 tops.

there are things to look for..the tell tale signs if you will.
when you open task manager and you have 7 instances of IE9 running and only one browser open.
check your add ons.

when you try and connect to google and you are redirected to another site(malware)
the VERY first thing you should be doing is looking at your internet options and add ons.because this is where it all starts.
