Been a while since I studied any of the sciences but isn't a pH of 5.5 about 'normal' for skin, so why on earth would it be beneficial to change it?

I think Karyn hit the nail on the head. No doubt lots of people buy it and swear by it. I'm off to bottle some more 'Peckham' spring water for my next shipment to the local supermarket.

FWIW,

This product seems to be widely used and recommended in the field of visual arts conservation.

Apparently, it is thought that handling cotton paper, matte board, and backing that has been neutralized to ph 7.0 with hands at 5.5 is not as conservative as handling the 7.0 paper with hands that have been temporarily treated to have a similar 7.0 ph.

I don't think it's snake oil... I just think the application for various activities may or may not be as suitable or effective.

mike

This may come as a bit of a shock Mike, but given your track record on 'facts' I don't actually take much notice of any of the web links you post. However my point was if it is normal for hands to have a pH of 5.4 I would think using anything to change that natural state would be fool hardy if nothing else.

Buy a box load if it makes you feel better. Can I interest you in some bottled water?
