No offense, but some of the posts here are pretty dern shallow.

Could be that the naysayers of loops don't have the creativity to use them as instruments in their own right.

There is a BIG difference in just layering a bunch of loops and calling it a song,
and creating with pieces and slices and tidbits of loops to augment one's creation. The whole argument reminds me of my grandfather demonizing the terribleness of the electric guitar.

At least, IMHO..

Apart from anything, going by the free Cakewalk content alone, anyone would think that techno is Sonar's largest user base.

I find that hard to believe too.

Maybe it's just the musicians that frequent these forums that makes it appear otherwise though.

Some worms at risk of escaping the can here methinks.

You might equally argue that every progression of C,F,G (or A,D,E for guitar players) falls into the same category of fake, as 12-bar blues are essentially all re-arrangements.
The blues bore me to tears to be quite honest. I can play the blues, but it's so monotonous and repetitive that I can only stomach it for just so long. That's why a lot of bands will warm up with a blues song ... it's easy, repetitive, and doesn't end until you say so. Just like looping. LOL!
You're listening to the wrong blues

The problem is "beefs with the loops".....if you had becan with the loops everything
would be fine.

I've heard good things about the guitars in this.  not necessarily about the guitar players, I think they're the ones who are "loopy"

No offense ...
Are you sure about that? Your post really goes down hill after the second word. LOL! As for me personally, I use loops a lot, but I create my own using the loop tool in Sonar.

Looping is nothing new, it's been around long before computers came on the scene. What is new is how someone else is doing the work now, and that work is being bundled and sold (or given away in this case), and someone else will piece together a song with those loops without ever touching an actual instrument. There's nothing wrong with that, but please, don't call yourself a musician, it's kind of offensive to those of us who actually are.

IMHO.

That was my point Bub.
It's not the "loops" per se that are objectional. It is how they are used. (IMHO).
But, whenever these 'loop' discussions get going, it always seems to devolve to the lowest denominator.
ie: someone making a song totally using loops.
I apologize if I was offensive to anyone.
