In the 1990's Roger Waters trumped a form of Pyschacoustic plug-ins called Q-Sound for his album Amused To Death-great album by the way and it worked but it's a bit of trickery really.

Would you believe I have those and still use them today for certain things?! It was a 3 plug suite but only 2 will work with current versions of the Sonar X series. Those plugs were really cool. Just to give you an idea on what they were capable of (other than Waters' album) check this out all done with Q-Sound. This was actually taken off the installation CD I have for the plugs. :)

That is a pretty cool effect - panning past the obvious boundaries of my monitors.  I picked up some playing with phase which always gives me the sense of pressure in my ears.  A little bit of that sort of effect would be cool but it would wear on me if I had to deal with an albums worth of material.
