or closet.

Before I get to it you need to know that I've been messing
with guitars since I was...could walk.

I was talking with some pick-up makers and the topic of winding direction
and dealing with lefties came up.
For some reason I thought about the staggard magnets ( different heights) and
Jimi.
First time it dawned on me that his guitar had the staggard pups upside down
and the slant too on the bridge pup. Had never thought about that in all these years and then it surprised me that no guitar player that I ever talked with did either...if they did I was to ignorant
to understand what they were saying.

Makes me wonder how much I've missed LOL.
(unfortunately I know much of my memory is gone from a personal trauma but
no way to know how much when ya don't remember)

errr...  do you mean that being a leftie the pups (and stagger) are backard to normal (and thus upside down)  or that Jimmy was a leftie but his guitar had the pups the same way as a rightie..  (and thus upside down to how they 'should' be)?

Edit:  I was always told that Jimmy played right handed guitars upside down, with the only modification being the strap button.

Same thing happened to me when digi2ns asked the question last week.

EYE OPENER.

From now onward, I'll think of it every time I look at a Bill Lawrence blade pickup design.

He turned a right handed guitar to the left. That meant that the height of magnets for individual
strings were out of place... upside down....along with everything else- excluding the strings, nut,
bridge saddles....educated guess because I've never seen/held his guitar.
So the lowest magnet - for the B string was then under the 5th- A string.
Also meant other changes as well but it seems the popular concensus is that it is not liked but
the reverse slant on the bridge pup is.
I've never tried so no opinion.

That is all assuming he re-stringed it as a leftie...  I was under the impression he didn't, which would mean the pups and bridge were all correct.

I need to go check some vids...

No assumption.
He re-strung and one of his claims to fame was using his thumb for the
bass in his chords.

It's also probably a fact that his guitar didn't have a RW/RP pup in the middle
since Fender didn't start that until the '70s.....meaning his guitar probably
had a pretty good hum to it ......But wait!....it probably had a three-way switch.

Wasn't he one of the guys who used all 5 positions of his 3 way switch?

In other words... does the introduction of an actual 5 way switch precede the introduction of the RW/RP middle pickup idea?

I like the hum.  :-)

You askin' me?.....lol.....I'm still on the magnets dude. Already had to deal with his thumb.
Cave was safer I'm thinking. :)

Mike the problem is if we say what Jimi had we'd have to talk about
the exact one.
He did different stuff to all of them is the story I get.

Bill Lawrence did a drawing of one, as he did the wiring for Jimi.
He used a three-way Tele switch in the drawing I have of Bills.
( it's also very cool that it has a blender pot as so many here know I'm
so fond of :)
