I've heard that these new larger drives use a "cheaper" different chip for memory, that do not last as long as the older smaller standards now being sold cheaper do.
 
Life expectancy is lower on these new drives...but they are faster and bigger....That is a trendish first model implemented  method they should do away with...and put best quality, longevity, performance, first, and over rule the Price per profit mentality using cheaper chips...cause we want bigger, faster, better...YES..and some will pay for it...and some will wait...to see the reviews...and the price drop in time...as all things do...eventually.

I have a 1 year old Intel SSD (256GB).  According to the Intel SSD Toolbox utility its "estimated life remaining" is still 100%.

Yeah, that price thingy is a showstopeer for me, but I'd love to have 1 (or 2) of these for my samples & projects drive.....(I'm sold on SSD's). :))

Isn't life span determined by usage in that posted  noted link?.....If you use these drives for record drives..and when the project is finished /Deleted and reused for another and another...in constant read and write...more than usual basic use...the life span goes down....I assume....eh?

I have both the SAMSUNG 840 Pro 500GB (system drive) and the 840 EVO 1TB (sample drive) in my laptop and I have had zero issues. Watch for sales as I got the 840 EVO 1TB for around $569 a few months ago.
 
I have had five of the Samsung 830's in the desk machine for quite awhile, and again, zero issues. A 256GB system, 256GB audio, and 3x500GB as sample drives. I feel pretty confident in the Samsung SSD's but I still make regular system images and backups for the other drives...
