Resonant Order
Well, I'm an uninsured musician who's been diagnosed with some nasty business. I can't pay for the treatment, so I created an indiegogo campaign. If you have the time, please read my story. Thank you.

Sorry to hear that...you can get something like that from an air conditioner? That scares the bejesus out of me...I read something recently about how unhealthy AC can be and it's worried me ever since. The manufacturers should make it easier to clean the things inside and out. I also use a humidifier in the winter and the nozzle that shoots the water particles out is forever getting moldy. You really have to keep an eye on this stuff.

Did the hospital and/or surgeon not offer you some kind of discount given that you'll be paying for it yourself? 6 years ago I was diagnosed with skin cancer and was uninsured. The hospital (Bellevue in New York) were really helpful, offered to tailor a payment plan to my financial situation, and put me in contact with a charity that offers financial help to uninsured cancer patients. But what really blew me away was the surgeon, a Dr. Berman, who took pity on me and shaved thousands off his usual fee for the surgery. I guess I just got lucky. All in all it cost me over $10,000 that I couldn't really afford, but it was the best money I ever spent in my life considering what would have happened if it spread.

Good luck with the fundraising!

That's bad news, Dale.  I contributed a small amount.  Sorry I can't help more right now.  My prayers are with you as well.  may you be healed completely!

Can I do this without giving indiegogo my info?

OK, done.

Dale, I have a friend in Austin, guitarist... Paul Snare. Good guy. You should look him up. He hosted a SE Jam in Atlanta when he lived here. It was associated with the old HCGF (harmony central guitar forum) or the current guitardiner.com all the more "mature" people left HCGF 10+ years ago and though it has gone through several incarnations the core group, mostly, is still at guitardiner.com, a small but good group of folks.

You will get what you need.

@Beagle...
My prayers are with you as well. may you be healed completely!

I had my units serviced and cleaned last spring. I was concerned that I might have one of the newer "efficient" units with the coils made from recycled aluminum. Thankfuly, the serciceman said they are copper. Aluminum is OK but recycled aluminum, used in an "energy efficient" configuration is BAD. The "efficient" coils are coiled much closer together, harder to get to and clean but really none of that is really what matters. The problem is that recyced aluminum is slightly porous, little holes so small that you cannot see them and if they get the mold on them, the one that causes "dirty cock syndrome"... you can clean the coil all you want but it will always come back because 1: you can't get to it to clean it right and 2: even if you could clean it, you can never get all the mold out of the microscopic holes... the only way to fix it is to replace the coil. I had a little bit of it but they were able to clean it away. You notice it the first couple of times you turn the heater on in the fall... it smells like dirty socks and isn't good for you. Some fungi are good for your head... some are not.

I am very sorry to hear this man.  I hope you will be alright..   Have you thought about medicaid?  and have you contacted the hospital's social workers?

I know somebody who got a bone tumor cat-scanned, and biopsied at zero cost, because of his money situations..   Lucky for him, it turned out to be nothing..  and not bone-marrow cancer..

Also..  Because my non-music day job has some ties to the health-care industry..   I suggest dialing 211 and seeing what kind of organizations are around town, to give care to the uninsured and needy.

aaaand now I feel thankful for what I've got. Things may not be perfect up here but at least my medical treatments are covered. If they weren't I'd probably be at least a quarter mil in the hole by now. Can't donate but best wishes to you.
