Most likely due to the climate change and maybe also the trip on a plane, my new Epi Les Paul seems to need some adjustments (intonation issues).

And since I'm no guitar tech, especially in the case of a LP, I'd prefer to ask a pro.

I've started shopping around on the internet and I'm also expecting some feedback from the musicians working for Cirque here in Vegas. But I wouldn't take any decision w/o also asking you guys before.

Since it's the first time I actually have to pay someone to do that, I have no clue what a fair price should be. So far, I've found one guy who does the basic set-up for $85 (seems fair to me).

Aslo, if you've lived here/been here and know of anyone that you'd recommend, please chime in. :)

That's a lot of money for a basic set up even with a truss rod adjustment. I could maybe see it getting up that high if he was messing with the nut slots. Maybe.

Oh... the one thing that could bump the price up is if they are dressing the frets but this is a brand new guitar is it not? It shouldn't need a fret dressing. I have to get the nut replaced on my Yammie and get it set up and I'm expecting to pay $60-$80.

I could however be exercising some wishful thinking there but minor repairs and maintenance shouldn't cost a lot. A basic set up for a pro (truss rod, action and intonation) would only take a half hour at most. Cheers.

May seem a strange question and you have probably done it already but you have fitted a new set of strings????

Check out Ed Roman's Guitars in Las Vegas. Ed died awhile back, but he's always employed top notch techs.

Randy - thanks, I'll check them out.

Wookie - Yup - I change strings every week or so on the LP. (The strat seems to need new strings every 2 or 3 days for some odd reason, no matter how much I use it or not).

Actually, the LP is the one I'm most careful w/ when re-stringing - doing the one string at a time thing to make sure there's no sudden change in tension and all. But my guess is that taking a guitar from a place as humid as NY in the summer to somewhere as arid as Vegas can't be all that good for an instrument.

Beepster - thanks for the heads up - I'll keep on shopping. :)

Right on, man. Good luck. I understand wanting your baby to be taken care of by a pro.

I've actually gotten a little more gutsy in regards to basic intonation and truss adjustments but my guitar isn't worth nearly as much. I set the truss rod a few months back and now I check and set the intonation every time I change my strings. Truss rod stuff is a little scary because if it snaps that's a major repair (the rule of thumb seems to be if you have to put more than a little pressure on the allen key stop and take it to a pro) however intonation isn't very complicated and the only thing to be really worried about is stripping the hardware. You may already know this stuff but here's a couple links I used to learn how to do it myself if you ever felt like trying it out on your other axes.

Not the greatest tuts but they worked for me. Cheers.

Lots of cool info there, thanks guys. :)

I still don't think I'd ever feel comfortable trying that stuff on the Les Paul. On the strat, maybe, someday. I've mistreated that guitar so much that I almost wonder if it isn't indestructible.

I find there is something very Zen and therapeutic performing general guitar maintenance. When I have more room I'm gonna try to set up a table specifically for working on my guits. Who knows. Maybe I could make some extra cash doing it someday. Cheers, Rain.
