I find there is something very Zen and therapeutic performing general guitar maintenance.

Yeh I really enjoy this kinda stuff.

I use my Line6's tuner to set the intonation on my strats every now and then.

Now that I have a LP Ill probably do it as well.

Id LOVE to be into wood working like Spacy and get into like that but I dont have a garage at this point.  Maybe someday.  I cant imagine the joy of building from the ground up and finessing the finer points and then to hear it sing

Yeah, man. I'd be all over that stuff if my body wasn't so mangled and I had the tools. As it is just my usual string replacement, polishing and intonation adjustments leave me pretty sore. A proper table and some blocks should help with that though. Right now I do it all on my bed or in my hands which isn't ideal. Cheers.

Check out Ed Roman's Guitars in Las Vegas. Ed died awhile back, but he's always employed top notch techs.

Randy

+1 to this!

(But BE CAREFUL!  Many have been known to go into dream ecstasy - or the poor house - after visiting Ed's place! )

Just looking at the strat upgrades page on Roman's web site and it suddenly feels like I could happily spend more on upgrading this guitar than what it initially cost me... :s

But this would make for a totally killer strat.

Mike don't let that stop you. I haven't built one in my shop yet.
Everything I've built was on my backyard patio.
I don't even know how to act now that I have a nice place to do it. :)

Is there a Guitar Center close to where you are?  They should be able to fix you up for $45-60.  They did a good job on my "new" Heritage Hollow.

I didn't know that - actually, my first plan/option was to ask the guys at GC next time I go there if they could recommend someone.
One more reason to pay them a visit soon.

Oh... the one thing that could bump the price up is if they are dressing the frets but this is a brand new guitar is it not? It shouldn't need a fret dressing.

New guitars frequently  almost always..IMO....could use a lite fret dress.

Now a fret leveling...........a new axe shouldn't need that kind of work.

Basic fret work seems covered where I looked. Though it's a darn fine guitar for the price, it could be optimized a bit. The reason I didn't want to have this done in NY is that I was actually expecting that our move to Vegas would require some adjustments anyway.

Plus, I'm considering having the pick-ups replaced.

Incidentally, this could probably end up in a different thread, but since we're here...

Instinctively, I'd probably be shopping Seymour Duncans, but a friend also suggested Di Marzio Super Distortion as a potential choice for the type of rock n roll I play.

Opinions?
