  No not the birdie......

    {how rude}

{ahem}  I'm talking about Windows 8 touch-screen finger licking gestures.

Apparently Windows 8 Metro is very touch-centric (more so than iPad) and obviously best suited {oh duh} to touch-screen UI (Metro) but if you intend to use Windows 8 in the old classic desktop environment as it's been for ages then I suggest users will probably be better off switching to Windows 'Classic mode' if that is at all possible in Windows 8 user settings?.

Since Touch-Screens and Gestures seem to be the trendy geeky hip new way to get personal with the computer it opens up many future possibilities --- interesting developments such as; new virtual instrument plugins and DAW's that make it possible to shape sounds and compose using Finger Gestures, a concept that begins with color-blobs to create new sounds and songs by reshaping blobs using finger gestures.

I think the above technological development is a real possibility and if I'm right?... then I guess anyone will 'claim' they're a musician and they write songs and they produced that sound and oh well I guess you get what I'm mean! Dang it!

Hmmm I wonder what other possibilities finger gestures will have in future in regards to the touch-screen UI ?  and what will be the pros and cons especially as users move from the old classic (qwerty+mouse) to {ahem} Finger Gestures?...

Anyway... it's time to take my medication but I'll be back later today to see if anyone has any other gestures they'd like to add to this thread.

Crack?...

Let me explain;  Aero = Glassy looking UI which was first developed in Windows Vista.

{Ahem} What was everyone else thinking huh?

As I just mentioned in a different tread, gestures can be cool - I find them awesome to navigate through a project in Logic - zoom, scroll and such.

Not sure how much I'd really on them if I had to use a touchscreen through, but w/ a trackpad (Mac), they became such an integral part of the way I work that I'm missing something whenever I launch an app that doesn't support them.

I still rely on a mouse too much - or the equivalent - to make a touchscreen all that useful. And a trackpad combines the best of both worlds.

That's a really good point and suggestion :-)

I think it will be great to have one built straight in to a desk.

I'll use a stylus just like it's a wacom tablet.

When the DAWs have their own built in multi-touch, and the displays are laying flat in the desk, it will be the next step in E-vo and we can finally get the display monitors out of the way of the sound.

best regards,
mike

A lot of people end up using just the keyboard, since it all works with that also.

I agree.

I use the - and + signs for all my level changes.
