I've been putting off buying a DSLR because I want a full-frame model.  Most likely a Canon.  Unfortunately, I can't afford one yet.

I also want to get a good film scanner for all of those old photos.

From what I've seen, and talking to some pro's, Cannon is the one you want. My next camera.

A used Canon D350 and a good lens a really good buy.

Remember that until you are hitting the top ranges of these DSLRs, you are getting the same sensor, so you are paying all that extra $$$ for the software features, and faster FPS.

Go manual, get a good spot meter and learn the zone system, best thing I ever did.

It's amazing how good pictures an old D350 can take with a good lens. My absolute favorite lens is Canon ef 85mm f/1.8 USM, it's a non zoom so it forces you to move to your targets instead of standing at the same spot zooming, and it has a very smooth background blur, it's basically L quality lens for non-L price.

My snazzy little Leica is still going strong after 5 years. Such a great point and shoot and small enough to stuff into a pocket. I got lazy about taking it out after I got an iPhone 4S because the camera on those things is pretty good and very adequate for posting photos online etc...but taking my Leica out again recently I realized there is just no comparison. And how I have missed shooting in RAW and the post-processing potential you get with it, like recovering detail from blown out highlights etc...try doing that on an iPhone!

I used to shoot hundreds of photos a day, then spend most of the evening sorting through them and processing them in Lightroom and Silver Efex etc...now it's like everyone's just slapping cheesy Instagram filters on everything.

JB, is the red line the bad news or the good news? It's so hard to tell with these 32bit graphs.

That graph was rendered with "for real" hardware pens and real ink.

That in itself should tell you something.

Never mind, if you've had the screen for less than 7 years they will probably replace it.
