As much as I hate to agree, there were all sorts of rumors floating around the industry about Gibson getting rid of Cakewalk. Yes, only rumors, but persistent rumors that even Cakewalk was most likely concerned about. Plus it's been no secret that Gibson has been bleeding money for quite some time.
So while Cakewalk didn't know anything for certain, there was definitely writing on the wall.
But I got my lifetime subscription when it was first offered, and I can't complain about all the updates I got since then.
I definitely got my money's worth. It was a win-win situation for both Cakewalk and it's customers. Cakewalk/Gibson got a quick infusion of cash, and we users got a very sweet deal on monthly updates.
And finally,
"Why is everybody sad for Cakewalk?" I think the reasons are obvious. The employees lost their jobs right before Christmas, with no advanced warning. And it's sad because we're losing a great software company that many of us love very much, as well as future updates and support. You can be MAD if you want, that won't change what's happened. But we CAN be sad, because that's just how most of us feel.
